I always watch Sky News before going to bed at night and was glued to the tv when it was announced Michael Jackson had suffered a cardiac arrest.
My dad went the same way - very suddenly. From what I have learnt, people can survive a heart attack, but not a cardiac arrest.
The world has lost yet another icon. I was only 10 when Elvis Presley died and I know how I felt about that.
(Thoughts for Farah Fawcett and her family also).

Morning Gee
I too was shocked to hear the news from my husband this morning when I woke up today as I'd had an early night yesterday evening. It's always so sad to hear of well-know people going this way. I too was reminded about when Elvis died - I recall spending the remainder of the school summer holidays that year watching his movies on the BBC. A great shame too about Farah Fawcett who I remember from Charlie's Angels. She was also married to Lee Majors ("The Bionic Man") if I recall.
Have a good day and a peaceful weekend.

Gee
Too true, very sad.
However, it is possible to survive a cardiac arrest. It is just a more technical way of saying heart attack. However, you would be right in saying that if he was at home on his own and had a cardiac arrest, and was not found for some time, then he would die from it. There is a window of opportinity in which the heart can be restarted, but it is very short and must be done before the brain suffers irreparable oxygen deficit which would definitely result in (brain) death.
Not nice either way, but I was partly expecting it. Too many concerts cancelled which, perhaps, should not have been booked at all.

Cardiac arrest can result from tons of things...allergic reaction, suffocation, etc. A heart attack can lead to cardiac arrest.
Heart attack refers to damage to the muscle of the heart, usually from a lack of blood flow. Most of the time a blood clot forms in one of the arteries that supply heart muscle with blood, blocking the flow of blood.
Cardiac arrest happens when the heart stops pumping blood.

They are investigating possible allergy to a prescription he was taking. Apparently, from what I have heard, it could be an accidental overdose from a prescription. An autopsy is being performed. News reports say that his doctor was in the house at the time because he was ill and had been complaining of various symptoms. Just not one of the people you think will never be gone, like Elvis.

It will be interesting to see if the true autopsy results are ever divulged. Ahhhh, another mystery of Hollywood.

Hope all those in the US had a great 4th of July.
Are any of you watching the MJ memorial? Apparently it's being shown live via various news stations and online websites.

No interest here either. However, free passes tot he memorial that were won in the nternet lottery are being sold on e-bay for $1300 USD as of this morning. Something just does not seem right with that picture.

Well I shall be watching. No matter what people thought of him, it's sad he never got to live the childhood we all deserve.
Fame comes at a cost for sure. The question is do you pursue the gift you were given or waste the chance of a lifetime?

What an amazing memorial. I am so glad I got to see this - very moving and emotional but at the same time enjoyable.

duque, believe me in the U.S. it is the same. I have been scrambling to try to find ANY channel that isn't covering it to the nth degree. It's really ridiculous. I understand about the musical genius part, but for gosh sakes, the guy had a lot of problems that certainly in my eyes keeps him from being an idol or an icon of any type. If I hear the words "exclusive new video" one more time, I'm going to scream!!!

Spitfire, I'd have to agree with you. Anytime that stuff comes on, we switch the channel or better yet, turn it off. I'm tired of hearing the latest updates on his passing. It's sad yes, but, you know what, let him go. Let the families do what they need to, and take care of the kids. It's really sad now that they have a custody battle going on, when it specifically listed the grandmother as the primary caregiver, let her, and if the mother wants to help, then heck all the more help for her. No custody battle, really that's the worst on the kids. Diamondlady Peer Moderator
