I'm giving my desk a makeover today...well a long needed Spring clean!  Got me thinking about what to leave on it and what to put away.  I'm still working on this but wondered what others have out on their desks.

Oh lord – too many pieces of paper, for sure!

Monitor
Monitor Stand (with more of those bits of paper
Keyboard
Mouse
Mouse mat
Phone
Desk Calendar
Stapler
Post-it dispenser
Separate post-it notes
Cellotape dispenser
Scanner
Notebook
Box of tissues
Two pen pots with pens, ruler, scissors and letter opener

Two other pots with paperclips and treasury tags
Stamp for messenger post
Tippex (god knows why – hardly ever used)
Desk lamp

Post tray for my boss
Two piles of paper that on projects that are still being dealt with or just finished…

I have two printers on a separate table by my desk, shredder is on the floor next to desk and the fax is across the room sitting on a small filing cabinet.

As I have my own (fairly large) office, things like filing trays etc are scattered around the room on various filing cabinets, another large table, stationery cupboard and bookshelves …

Please don't ask the questions :
What's on the floor?
What's on the windowsills?
Or on top of the filing cabinets and the other table...
Oh, and under the desk and table ...

Ok, here's mine.

Monitor and keyboard, with hard drive under desk.  Monitor sits on a riser thingy that is also a drawer.  On top of that is my mobile, my swipe card, some highlighters, a folder containing last night's board papers, staple extractor and some used stamps.

To the right of that, sellotape dispenser, office stapler which I sometimes use, my nodding westie doggy our janitorial supplier gave us all, a squirty air freshener (not the commercial kind)

paper holder holding stuff I just keep there
box of tissues
vase (currently empty)
bottle of diluting juice
phone
3 file trays

to the left:

desk fan
pen holder
treasury tag box
snopake bottle
extra staples
wee magnetic house holding paper clips (we're a housing association)
two date stamps as I'm currently looking after mail opening
my own stapler which I prefer using
a pile of mail to go out
some mail I'm dealing with
a tiered file holder thingy that I move off the desk when I need more space

there are probably other things that I've missed but it's starting to sound very crowded and honestly it's actually not!!

I'm a neat freak.  My laptop, monitor on a stand, phone, a hot file cube with hanging folders, an organizer (post-it notes, flags, pens, white out, and tape all in one unit), two printers, fax machine, post-it cube with extra large lined post-its, water cup and a picture of the hubby.
I have a wall of cabinets for supplies and a lot of filing space.  I usually only have on my desk what I am working on at that minute.  Other items either find their file home or live in the "hot file" temporarily.

Monitor/keyboard/mouse etc
Printer
All the other usual -- tissues/hand sanitizer/phone/tape/stapler, etc. etc. and then...

Cue heavenly music and beam of light shining down....

MY SCANNER

I scan everything and save it as pdfs in folders on my computer with the company's official backup system PLUS my own collection of DVD+RWs.for backup.

I keep four paper folders on my desk
incoming mail
things that need to be signed
things that need to be scanned/filed
outgoing mail

Occasionally, I use a printout for something I need to scribble on as I'm thinking, but generally things fall into one of those four statuses.

And of course, my picture of DH -- to remind me of what's REALLY important.

On which desk, I have three in here.  One has the computer, phone, calendar and in box, the other desk has calculator, rolodex, electric stapler, tape dispenser, date stamper, and hole punch. The third desk has printer, labels, paper, fax cover sheet forms.  And yes, neat freak here when it comes to the office anyway, I wished I were that neat at home. Somehow I just can't bring myself to be that neat at home.  I'm learning.
