I use mine for my side business and for personal, not for work.

I use mine for business in the sense that it allows me to work flexibly ... there is rarely anything in my job that requires me to be at a desk in an office and if I need to be at home for say a plumber or delivery I can work wherever I need to.  My work laptop connects into our Network via a wireless connection to my personal Broadband (costs me nothing because I would have the phone/broadband package regardless) and if I am travelling between home and work during the business day my own iPhone allows me to pick up essential work stuff.

I do pay for a fairly heavy use monthly package on my mobile but as I see it, it is my security when I am out and about and I never need worry I have used all my minutes.  It includes mobile e-mail and if in range a WiFi connection.

From my employer's point of view I take less time off during business hours for domestic emergencies so they gain too.

I'm with the old-fashioned group here.  I have a Tracphone - it has no camera and no fancy bells and whistles - it is just a phone.  I buy the yearly package and never come anywhere close to using up the minutes.  I think I have something like 880 minutes on it right now, and it's due for renewal in July.  Wish they would give you the option of renewing without having to add minutes if you don't need them.

I keep it for emergency use only, and it is generally turned off.  I have had it about 3 years, and only just recently activated the voicemail function.  I keep forgetting to turn it on to see if I have messages!  My friends have the number, and I do turn it on if I am due to meet someone.  That way they can reach me if they are running late.  No one at work has that number, nor would I ever give it unless it were truly necessary.  My away-from-work time is just that - away from work!

iPhone user here also.  I was a diehard I just want a plain phone for emergency calls.  Christmas '07, the dh surprised me with the iPhone and a Garmin navigator.  I loved the navigator, as I am the most geographically challenged person in the world.  I wanted him to take back the iPhone.  Plus I didn't want to give up my pink razor phone (which he now carries - tee hee)
It was three weeks of frustration for me as I tried to figure out all the apps, get my address book back, email I could receive but not send etc...
Once all the pieces fell into place, I am not without it.  Even sitting on the couch, I look things up on the internet as within three months I had to have wifi in the house!
My apps are mostly simple, the news services, Lose It a great calorie-counting program, eBay, Urban Spoon for finding restaurants, and a dictionary.  I go through phases looking for new apps then leave it alone for a while.  Our mail delivery person has one also and he tells me of new apps and stops by to charge his phone.
One feature I really like is the multiple calendars.  My dh has a work schedule where his off days move forward one day each month and I cannot keep track of it.  He has his own calendar on my phone and will even ask me what his off days are when we are out.  My volunteer schedule is another calendar.
My only downer so far is my company will not sync to the iPhone, but that still works for me as if I really need to I can check web mail.
We were told in the mac store within six months of buying an iPhone you will probably buy a mac computer - we were right on track - love the mac!
