I guess it was only a matter of time until the axe fell I'm surprisingly upbeat about it though as I started my own VA business last year and this will give me the push to become more directed I'm actually now excited about it and want out of this office asap.

Well, I'm sorry for the redundancy, but am very glad that you have a back-up plan - you go, girl!!!
Lay-offs are coming here on May 1 - everybody is very, very grim. I think (but am not totally sure) that my job is safe. However, I may be facing a salary cut.
They've been talking about all of this since February. So, for 2 very long months we've all been on pins and needles waiting to see what is going to happen to us. It's got everyone quite jumpy. I don't know if it's better to know in advance or to have it sprung out of the blue. There have been a lot of sleepless nights lately.
Best of luck to you in your new venture. I'm sure you'll do really well. Maybe this will turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Good for you to have a back up plan. Best of luck with the new venture. This makes me wonder if we should all be planning.
My issue with the VA is how do you find clients? Marketing has never been one of my strong points. Plus I got bogged down in the legal side, tax id numbers, setting up an legal entity etc.

Oh Callie not good news I know. However maybe this is your chance to start something new.
Good luck with it all. Do you have to work any notice?

Argh, still haven't got a letter outlining my package yet! Our HR department are useless! I'm really struggling to remain motivated and professional I'm here basically stuffing files into bags for shredding, I've lost email functions for my boss and his calendar. My colleagues are very shocked and more than a few are jittery about their own jobs now. It seems that the removal of my position has affected a few people and their own security. It's so sad, there are a lot of unhappy, demoralised people around me at the moment, I really don't think our Board know the extent. I am very glad to be leaving, which is a dreadful feeling. My hubby commented that my "bubble" is back the other day Apparently I haven't smiled and laughed so much in a long time (although I think the sunny weather is helping). Sad times

Callie I got the same reaction when I lost my job last year. Others were so jittery they couldn't speak!
Keep your head, the sun is shining for you!
PS. As for HR, useless is correct!

Well that's me all done! The last few days have honestly been the worst days of my entire working life and I will be making a complaint. My boss hasn't even been in the office this week! I've packed, shredded and archived two offices and seven years of business operations single-handedly, organised furniture removal, kept my boss fully aware of every action, whilst, believe it or not, having to run the office as normal (thought my job was no longer necessary!). As of this moment, I have nothing official in writing, my boss told me that HR were coming to sort all the paperwork out with me on Thursday afternoon possibly, but no one from HR could be bothered to ring me and make an appointment, and even less so could they ring and tell me they weren't coming!! Two hurried phone calls and a couple of apologies this morning, saw me politely told to hand my keys in and go ... which was gracious of them for saying I had no furniture to sit on anyway! I was told the paperwork was posted yesterday but that it would be emailed through! I've not had it though. There is a fine line between remaining professional and being humiliated and that line was definitely crossed into the latter yesterday. I've not even had a card off my boss. I did however, have a beautiful bouquet from the other MD and his PAs Roll on Monday morning and self employment

How awful for you Callie but you kept your cool unto the end. No point wasting energy on people who don't give a damn.
I wish you all the best for the future. Keep in contact.

Sorry the last job ended on such a sour note, but at least you can walk out with your head held high!

Callie, you've had an awful time of it but you've kept your humour, professionalism and dignity so Well Done You!
Your boss has behaved abominably - as has HR and hats off to you for staying to calm about it. Not so sure I would.
Best of luck with everything - I'm sure things will go well for you and I shall be thinking good positive thoughts.

What industries do you work in? I work in Construction in the UK and considering how bad things are supposed to be redundancies haven't been mentioned as yet.

I was in a branch of construction hire industry. I have now got it all in writing and will be speaking to a solicitor in due course. Can't say I haven't loved being at home
