What kind of event? Are the attendees able to move around or are they all going to be in seats? What type of seating arrangement? What type of audience (male/female, general age, professional/student, etc.?) How much time do you have to allot to the ice breaker? Do these people actually know each other (even a little) or are they complete strangers?
If you can provide a little more information, we can probably give you some useful suggestions.

April,
Our sales team have these sessions every morning before they head out for the day. It can be used as an ice-breaker or a way of getting a point across.
One suggestion is the old post-it note game. Usually 2 people are chosen to guess the name of a famous person, dead or alive, which is written on a post-it note and stuck to the forehead....questions are asked by each in turn, in order to guess who the person is. The purpose of this for our sales team is....never assume anything eg. never assume the customer wants x if they really want y....in other words ask questions.
It really depends on the kind of ice-breaker you want and the theme of your meeting/seminar etc.

I deleted your other posting. We'll leave this one up as it's a more accurate place to post it. Diamondlady Peer Moderator

If it's a sit down people always tend to be with the same group - clicks if you will. Take a few minutes before hand and give each chair at the tables a different color napkin, post it or the like. Now have a table matched up to that postit color. Everyone has to get up and move to their new table - give a few minutes for each person to tell something about themselves to the table that others may not know about him or her. For example I'm sure my co workers don't know that I once stood on a police car to take a picture!

Thank you everyone for your help. Because time has become a real issue we are just going to let everyone make fun nametags at their tables.

I like the color post it idea to group the attendees.
After they are re-seated, have each write 3 things on a notepad about themselves. I true and the rest false statements. In the groups, they go around the table, read their lists and the rest of the group guesses what is true.
It's a 20 minute exercise, but can get a group acquainted and break the ice.
Good Luck

I've always play to enjoyable business games and icebreaker activities for fun and also like to learn courses in dealing with personal development, management and team building.
