Do you have numbers programmed for speed dial at on the phone at your desk?  Are any of your numbers personal?  Does it save time or just a convenience?

I have 6 numbers program on my phone.    Two are my kids cell phones programmed but that is it for personal numbers.  So for me yes, I have personal numbers!  For the most part I keep my personal numbers on my cell phone.

I don't use speed dial on any of my phones, work, cell or home.  I find I can dial from memory quicker.  By the time you hunt for the number and then engage speed dial I am already talking to whomever I called.

In work I have several managers nos listed on my telephone keypad which are highlighted if they are on a call - that helps.

All nos on my mobile are listed by person and in alphabetical order.

Our phone system does not allow programming speed dials.  I would use them if I could though, both for internal numbers and personal ones.  We do have a nifty feature that allows you to see the past 20 numbers you have dialed, received calls from, or missed calls from.  I use that a lot.

I have a personal directory on my work phone, where I keep the numbers to a minimum (parents and daughter plus a couple of colleagues at other institutions).  I use the recent calls list most often though because it is quicker to access and I don't make/take huge numbers of calls so generally the ones I need are near the top of the list.

We do have excellent phones where I work and I am sure we don't use the full features they can offer.

On my mobile I store by name and it is quick to look up, but I don't bother with adding the voice speed dial to them.

I am on the lookout for a landline phone for home that is both VOIP compatible and allows SIM card transfer - this would be ideal since I can update records there or in my mobile and synchronise them (I hate fiddling with adding numbers to phones!)

My phone system is similar. We have some speed dial numbers programmed in (such as IT help) but generally we don't use them. My phone also lets you see the last numbers dialed/called in, which is helpful at times.
I wouldn't really need to program personal numbers in since I use my cell for personal calls--about the only personal number I'd call from the work phone would be home.

Speed dial or program in numbers make it harder to actually remember phone numbers.   Before cell phones and speed dial I could tell you the numbers of most everyone I knew, now ask me more my son's number I am like .. duh?? I don't it off hand.  Kinda funny, but true.

Here are the numbers on my one touch speed dial buttons:  boss's cell, husband's cell, husband's office, company travel agency, company limo service, son's office, best friend's office.

There are so many phone numbers "out there" now, it's hard to keep them all memorized.

We have speed dial on our phones in our office  - central for all phone users in the office.  I don't use it an awful lot though.

In my mobile phone all my own personal/private numbers are stored by name, all company numbers are stored by company initials then name.

Embarrassed to day - My parents moved house about 18 months ago and I still can't remember their new phone number, because is stored in both my mobile and landline phones.

Speed dials are horrid.  I don't have them, won't use them and cannot stand it

Why? When my parents try to be 'with-it' and use them because they invariable telephone me then telephone someone else, wanting to talk to, say, uncle john or aunty pam or either of my two brothers but not me 'again'.  They apologise then do it at least three more times before putting their glasses on and pressing the correct speed dial button.  It is even worst when I am out and they leave long messages to same - what am I? their secretary or their daughter?  Just hate the retched thing!!! (thanks for the vent - have wanted to get that one off my chest for a long long time!)

Jess, you made me smile!  I programmed my number into my parents' phone, thinking that would make it easier for them.  Many months later, I mentioned it, and they were both surprised - neither one even remembered that I had done it.  I reminded them, but my guess is that they still don't use it.

At home, my parents' number is the only one I have on speed dial because I call them every evening.

At work, although speed dial is an option, I don't use it.  I find I can dial the numbers faster than trying to remember which phone number belongs to which speed dial number.

Speed dial is great for the fax machine.   We have many international numbers and it is so much easier to just program them in.   I don't use it on my phone, I have no reason to at this job.

I have everything on speed dial.  Several of my bosses have multiple offices and work in different states.  Plus they have car phones and black berries with different numbers. (one boss has SIX contact numbers) I started with a cheat sheet, but by the time I find the number dial - ick!  Two clicks on my phone and I'm on a call.  I added common vendors and support numbers, Office Depot, Corporate Office etc.
Yes, I also have three numbers for my husband in speed dial.
I was given the iPhone for Christmas and use it's speed dial favorites.
The home phone I have to manually push buttons - which is why I probably never use it!

I have all of my bosses direct reports saved in my desk phone.  I can get them on the line in a minute and don't have to look up their numbers individually.  It's great.
