I inherited a big whiteboard in my new cube. It's not white--it's covered with the shadows of many previous markings. Whiteboard cleaner didn't remove it; neither did mild soap and water. What else can I use to get it clean without destroying the finish?

Well if it's the markers that you can clean off I use the Expo 2 D White Board Cleaner, but I don't use the erasers. I use a cotton cloth. It works much better on getting rid of those lines, especially if they have been there for a while. However, if there are lots of lines on it and it's been there for a while, you may have to invest in a new one. Sometimes they just won't come off after a long period of time. My .02 cents.

Use Quartet Re-mark-able Marker Board Conditioner and Cleaner. I have used it and this stuff is phenomenal. Most office supply catalogs should carry it.
A little goes a long way with it too. It essentially restores the original finish.

I don't know if you have these where you are, but I've had great success cleaning whiteboards with Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Works like a charm!

I've used the standard dry erase board cleaner that you get from Office Depot. Unfortunately, as diamondlady mentioned, if the boards get heavy use, or you leave markings on there for a while, they will "ghost" or stain, and the markings will not completely come off. I think GlassCoat is the name of the type of dry-erase surface that helps avoid that. Office Depot has them, but they are not inexpensive. If they get a lot of use, that may be the better way to go. Test this first....
I used to write notes on the fridge at home and that too got marked and left with shadows, i cleaned with white spirits and a bit of kitchen roll, worked well

If it is really bad and won't come clean - I would go to a sign writters and ask them for some white vinyl (check and make sure its the right type of vinyl and they will be able to cut it to size) and just recover your present board - it will be as good a new again. Coz  |
