My boss would like to build a resource library of books, magazine subscriptions, etc. since she just discovered that we actually have a budget for those things, and it's per year, per person. That means we can build a fairly substantial library in a relatively short period of time. So I'm looking for suggestions: What do you have/wish you had/dislike, etc. We work for a large accounting firm, if there's anything industry specific.

What I currently have at my desk are Gregg's, PSI's Complete Office Handbook, Office 2000 Bible and Office 2000 for Dummies, and, of course, a dictionary.

The publications that I get are Office Pro, the Office Professional and the Executary. I also get the Inter@ctive Office Professional and This Very Week via email.

Thanks for your help!

I would love to have an Access Bible, but those are hard to find anymore and not much use to anyone who doesn't play it Access alot.  Otherwise you seem to have hit the major ones I have.

In researching for a reply to another post I found one that might be helpful to you.  Go to page 17, look about 1/2 way down and you'll find a topic "Business Related Books"... there seemed to be some good info in there and some of those included might be helpful to you.

Good luck!

I've always found that a Basics of Accounting book and a Fundamentals of Business Law book are helpful.

Foreign language dictionaries - although you can always use the Internet - thesauraus, dictorionary of synonyms, of professional terms for your industry.

Directories - yellow pages, phone books, industry directories

Competitor information - brochures of other companies, catalogues

Software manuals and help books

The Inter@ctive Office Professional and This Very Week are email publications that come with the subscription to The Office Professional. All three are published by Professional Training Associates.

I really like them because they're short and to the point.

Email me at jahdra@hotmail.com if you would like me to email you copies of each.

We used to have a library but in the interest of saving storage space and money, we opted to give employees Internet access instead (hard copy subscriptions got too pricey to renew).

There are lots of sites with free dictionaries, thesaurauses, encyclopedias, etc. Anything you can't find for free you can subscribe to via Internet or order a cd rom (sometimes cd roms are free too).

I read our daily newspaper on the Internet for free to browse for articles related to our business and check what similar companies are doing that we could be doing.

Our IT people set up some favorites links from suggestions we submitted (sites we thought would be helpful to a lot of us).

Add www.firstgov.gov to your favorites to get the latest tax information, laws, etc.

Everything is moving toward Internet and e-commerce.

I am familiar with Office Pro and the Executary but not Office Professional. Can anyone give me more information on this publication?

So glad I found this board by the way!
