This reminds me of a story. We had a new Brazilian employee at our office here in the USA. He was on the phone with an American car rental company, trying to tell this gal the number of his agreement. He kept saying, "not "B" but "P" as in POOH." He kept getting louder and louder, and she just wasn't getting it. He finally looked at me, in the cubicle next to him, doubled over in laughter. He put the lady on hold and asked me what to do. I finally managed to settle down, and said, tell her "P" as in Peter! He did so, and finished the conversation.
Later on, he told me that he was thinking of using "P" as in Pedro, but he couldn't think of any English word other than POOH.
I don't know why, but this struck me as so funny at the time, I was in tears.
