I always try to find ways to email where we used to fax.  However, we still have a fax machine in the office for those times where you can only fax - e.g. no email address available, or document is not 'emailable'.

However, we have a software programme on a computer attached to our fax machine whereby we do not print out the faxes we receive prior to viewing them on screen to see if we really need them (as a travel company, we receive lots of special offer faxes).  This is software that came with the fax machine (a Canon Multipass) and is pretty good in general.

Anyway, sorry, enough of my waffle!  Do many of you still use fax machines, or do you have some kind of software to handle it?

All the best,
Nicola.

Yes if I have to send orders or POs.  Usually if I scan it then I would email it - just depends.

Yes!  I communicate a lot with Third World countries in my job, and like to have several methods of contact at my disposal.

I use the computer to e-mail/fax as much as I can but occasionally I have to physically send a fax using the fax machine.

(Telex machines - I remember as a child spending time in my fathers office where they had two telex machines sending messages from one to the other, then having fun playing with all the punched out little bits ........ all those years ago!!!)

Still send faxes, not nearly as many as I used to.  Use email wherever possible.
Working in the shipping industry we still did use a telex machine up until about 1 year ago!

I try to e-mail whenever possible, but have to keep a fax machine around for those instances it's needed.  Our copier also serves as a fax, so at least we only have one machine to deal with now.

Ede... if bossie likes to see paper go through the machine, send it through a scanner and then e-mail it.  Bossie gets to see it go through a machine and you get the ability of e-mailing it.  I know, it won't work, but it was a suggestion.  Pardon my tongue-in-cheek humor.

I am not so sure that that would not work (with a little adaptation).  The scanner I use, an HP 9100C Digital Sender, has the facility to fax as well.  If ede's boss likes just to watch it (or hear it) go through it could still be emailed to her with all the requisite sounds etc then emailed in basic pdf format!

This could definitely work - I use a similar thing to get people to log onto my scanner using my name which also allows me to receive 'did not send' type messages and send them again to, where necessary, the correct email address.  That happens a lot.
