So it was a crazy morning...I went off and got lunch at Mickey-D's, only to come back and barely have time to eat because there was lots of work to do and I was also trying to help out at the front desk. Then things finally quieted down, and my supervisor asked to speak to me. Sure. She took me into a conference with one of the principals, and they told me I've been laid off because there "isn't enough work for me to do!"  What? Excuse me?? I could hardly believe my ears. Yes, Word Processing has been slow off and on lately but sometimes it still gets NUTZ, other departments are hopping, and somebody in Admin is always out sick or something (except for Yours Truly, thank you very much) so surely I could be of use somewhere. And in fact I have been!  I think they're going to miss me, yes, I really do... (besides, who is going to decipher all that horrible handwriting now?!)

However, for now simple logic has escaped them I guess. So here I am, out on my bum, looking for a new job. Wish me luck! It just kinda hurts, you know, because not only was this the best job I've had so far, I really liked the people there and considered many to be like family, in fact. But stuff happens. Several people have already told me "when a door closes, another one opens," etc., etc.  Yup, I learned that last time this happened. I already have a lead--at one of the architectural firms our company works for! Hot-dog!

Looking for the next door in Washington State!

Oz... Sending you a big cyber hug.  What a terrible week for you!  And it's almost impossible to understand how they could do that to you this week when the others are out and you're filling in and keeping them afloat in so many ways.  Kind of feels like a slap in the face, I'm sure.  But you're also a very professional lady and I'm sure something more will come along.  There's a position out there that will provide you challenge and stretch your skills... maybe that's why this door closed, to help you locate that next door.

Keep us informed on how it goes.  Try to keep as positive an outlook as possible.  And yes, they will miss you after you're gone.  Only they don't realise how much just yet.

Oh, Oz, I'm so sorry!  Talk about being sucker-punched!
Prayers, hugs, and good vibes to you.  Remember to be extra, extra nice to yourself.  Hope the architect thing comes through!
Did.

And from me, Oz, if I think back, you've said a lot of times that the place is heaving with work and folk are off sick - so what are they doing?

Anyway, their loss, not yours.  And with a possible new job in the offing, all isn't as bleak as it could be - a mean time of the year, but then, there never really is a good time to issue such gut wrenching news is there?

Best wishes for the new lead for the job and we know you will keep us posted here on progress.  In the meantime, keep your chin up and remember those wonderful talents.

On another note, whatever happened to your pic? It never shows up anymore!

So sorry to hear of your layoff.  As others have stated you have the right attitute going forward.  From the sounds of things you won't be out for very long.  I hope that position works out for you.  They sure will miss you when you are gone, they just don't realize how much just yet.

Cyber hugs to you and if you need an ear or need to vent, please feel free anytime.  Keep us posted on how things go.
