I use a popular brand of laser printer labels.  You probably know the one.  Anyway, I don't usually need to print a whole sheet of labels at once, and then I re-use the sheet to print more labels later.  After 2-3 uses it picks up a lot of toner and gets very dirty and gray.  I complained to my printer servicing people and they said it's the labels, not the printer.  The label sheets do say not to re-use, but what a huge waste of money to print 2-3 labels off a sheet of 24 and then toss the rest!  Anyone have a help for this?

I had this same problem a while back. I called my computer help desk guy. He said NOT to do that. It will eventually ruin the printer because the sticky residue from the labels you used and peeled off gets stuck to the insides of the printer. Those labels are not designed to be reused (must use whole sheet at once when feeding through printer).

Typewriters on the other hand, are easily cleaned.

If you need to just use one or two labels at a time and not a whole sheet, use the typewriter instead.

I even emailed the label manufacturer to ask if they have a product I could use instead for this purpose. They replied that they did not.

I have noticed this as well. I find that I can easily have the labels go through twice, but after that it's hit or miss if they end up speckled.

I try to save up my printing until I have a whole sheet.

Alternatively, I use the mini sheets where I can. These are sheets of labels that are about the same size as a standard business envelope. They go through laser printers (and probably have inkjet versions available). I found samples of them by going to Office Depot and typing mini sheets labels. Oddly enough when I did a search for mini-sheets on avery they didn't come up - and they own the trademark!

Avery also makes one-half sheets; comes 12 labels to a sheet.  I've used these for years and they work pretty well.  Of course your printer has to support them.  I no longer have access to a typewriter so unless I just can't wait to prepare a file label, I usually do several at a time.  And I've been known to run them through several times myself.

I keep files of single sheets of labels addressed to people that I send things to more than very occassionally.

I have been know to write envelopes by hand, or, in the case of A4 envelopes, print out on plain paper and tape the labels to the front of the parcel.

I re use one sheet all the time, if there is ANY black ink on the page, it comes out dirty, but I find if I peel all labels with ANY ink on them, I can resue it till I dont have anymore spots.

Dettu:

I also use that popular brand of laser printer labels all the time, too.  Check your sheets of labels.  Mine are perforated between the columns, so you can divide them into single columns of labels to shoot through your printer.  This may save you some labels.
