Having been caught up in the Oscars fever, if you were given the chance would you wear the $5m diamond studded dress?

Me, no way - to begin I would be conscience of being 'tailed' by these discreet security people and at the back of my mind I would be praying hard that I do not loose any of the diamond studs!

What about the weight - won't the dress be heavy in itself!

Over to you folks!

I think it's just a tad over the top.  Like those jeweled Victoria Secret's ensemble the produce every year, or the dress made of pure gold (I believer it was made for the Queen a long, long time ago).  You couldn't pay me enough to wear it.

As long as I didn't have to pay for it, absolutely I'd wear it just for the idea of having it on and wearing it out somewhere, heck yes!  Now if I had the figure to wear it absolutely.  My figure right now,  I wouldn't want to scare anyone.  But if I were in their shoes, absolutely.  I'd have no problem.

It depends... would it be insured so that anything lost (or stolen) from it wouldn't be at my expense?  If so, then maybe yes.  (Agreeing with Chris--given their figure and not my own! )  Could you imagine someone bumping into you and taking off with a diamond???  Egads!

But I think once would be enough to last me a life-time.

Karen - 80 pounds!!!!  Congratulations!!!

Presuming I could take over someone else's body... nah, I'm still not really interested in wearing it.  I just don't like the looks of it.  I've never liked sequins much either, though.

Well, not having seen the dress I can't say for certain.  But odds are I wouldn't want to wear it.  What is considered "high fashion" for the stars the past decade or so comes across as down right tacky and sloppy looking to me.  Whatever happened to the old standard of "Hollywood Glamour".  Now the ladies back in the 40's and 50's really had class and it showed in their wardrobe and more importantly in the way they carried themselves.  These days I see the beautiful women who either have no personality or don't know how to stand up straight.  Makes you wonder just what makes them "stars".

And more importantly, I am extremely picky about what I wear.  I could never let someone just hand me a dress that they considered "fashion" and wear it comfortably.  If it doesn't fit well and isn't comfortable to move around in, I don't want to wear it for any length of time.  That's just me.  Considering that I am 5'3", 105 lbs, weight has little to do with my choices other than something being to loose/tight in the wrong spots.

Just my $0.02.

I've seen the dress and it's beautiful.  It's a strapless bandeau dress.  It's a sheer silky black fabric with a black lining.  The dimonds don't cover it completely, but are spread out.  It reminds me of what a clear sky looks like in the city.  Bright stars, but not huge masses of them.  It's really tasefully done, but I wouldn't want the responsibility.

Now that you've described it, it does sound attractive.  And now I can answer with a certainty that I would not wear it.  Not because of the value, but because I just cannot wear anything strapless.  With the way I am shaped, it would never stay up properly and I'd be self conscious of it sliding to low the whole night and would end up constantly drawing attention to that by pulling at it all night.  That would make it impossible for me to relax and enjoy the evening.  Now throw in some spaghetti straps and I'd definately be willing to try it on to make sure.

Hmm, now that it's been described it sounds more tasteful than my original 'picture' in my head which just screamed disgusting and tasteless at me.

Like Michelle I too would need a great deal of support.  But - Michelle - the designer would be on hand to 'fit' the dress to you and ensure it wouldn't slide down - after all s/he wouldn't want the bad publicity of an ill fitting dress, would they?!

No, I would go for it.  Now I just need someone to invite me and escort me . . .!
