OUCH!! Hi all! Well, as of last week, I too have joined the ranks of the unemployed. It was really a shock but am doing okay. Not the best time of the year for this but, am looking for the gift in the situation. Please send me your prayers and good thoughts as I continue to search.

Hang in there, peacelily. This has happened to me twice, and I understand the wide range of accompanying emotions. Stress, yes; it's there. There truly is a blessing at the end, and probably one even in the middle, if you look hard enough. Thoughts are with you!

DH was once laid off the day before Thanksgiving - while I was expecting ds, too! I understand the anxiety you must be feeling. You're in my thoughts! DonnaP99

Oh, Peacelilly - I'm so sorry. Since I got "hit" last week also I can sympathize. The best advise I've gotten is that whenever God closes one door He opens another. Keep looking for the gift that I'm sure you will find in this situation.
Also - be good to yourself. Even if you expected it, a layoff is a shock to your system - especially when you've been doing the same thing for as long as we have. Keep checking in here at TAA; it's like family wrapping their arms around you.
You're in my prayers, cocookie

Hope that things are going better now, peacelily. Do you have any leads yet?

Keep your chin up and remember, we only have one door closed so that we can better see the other doors that open. Here's hoping that you find that other door soon, and that it is better than the one you had before!

The resumes are flyin' out the door and through the internet!! I have 2 potential leads but they are $25K LESS than what I was making. I am very willing to accept less but that is a really big drop in pay and not sure I can handle it. I am trying to get into non-profit - hence the low salary. Really don't want to do the "corporate" thing but will smile and do it gracefully if necessary. Since I am an "old broad" I've been around - know what I mean? ....and didn't burn any bridges so, I have many contacts with which to network. My recruiter would like me to come with her which is in itself a wonderful affirmation since she has won awards EVERY year but the pay is low with 50% commission. Not sure I am THAT persuasive for this type of job.
So, I'm a bit scared - severance is running out in 3 weeks but, I am collecting all your good vibes, hugs and prayers. Guess this is what "faith" means and believe it will work out - my challenge is letting it go after I've done my very best. I am grateful for your support and friendship - thank you! Will let you know what develops.

Good luck for finding the right position soon. I remember when I was laid off in 1989 I thought it was the worst day of my life, but I have been at my present job for 10 1/2 years and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I know you'll find something that you are just going to love. Good Luck.

peacelily/kathy: write down exactly what you want. There is a book by Lynea Corson Hadley called "Secrets of Superselling" that shows you how to do this. Check it out of your library, and get busy! I've written on this topic so many times, that I'm sure, somewhere in these admin or cafe admin postings there are notes on this. Once you've defined what you want and have it down on paper, you're a lot more likely to attract it to yourself. I hope that, if you do decide to settle, that it's just for awhile. If things are getting dire, something is better than nothing. And I doubt that you're an "old broad." You're simply [uhh], well seasoned!

In this last week, I've learned that when fielding resumes (for an IT position) via monster.com (my e-mail seemed to have been volunteered for this...grr), it is those that answer first that get more complete attention. I've gotten 200 the first six hours, 200 the next day, and 150 the third day. It's impossible, I think, for anyone responding on the 4th day to even get a standard response. Be on your toes, if you use an internet service. Edited by copyboy007 on 19/11/01 05:04 PM.

Copyboy007 - thanks for the heads up. I have been vigilant on the internet leads. I don't think the employers have had the chance to get their hands off the mouse before I'm there! The first week I was laid off I was a bit like a "deer caught in the headlights" because it was such a surprise. But, I did have a brain cell or two fired up enough to send out a few resumes. The second week, I was "wired" and I only drink decaf (don't ask - I don't know why either). This week I'm a bit calmer. Now this is good news because I have an interview tomorrow and it's best that I am "normal".......well.
Thank you all for your suggestions and tips, as well as good wishes, etc. Your support has been heartwarming and truly appreciated. I'll let you know what develops.
