I asked once before if people had music in the office, today question is similar. If music is streamed in (or if you wish it was) would you rather have calming music or something up beat?

I need music in the office to help me concentrate, so I stream jazz from Pandora and have tailored that feed so there are no songs with lyrics to tempt me to sing along. Having music helps screen out hallway conversations and other types of distractions.

Neither, a nice peaceful quiet office. I've worked with elevator muzak and the sing alongs or whistlers drive me a little crazy.

I do not want something streamed in.... I like to control what I listen to. Because there are days that something calming and soothing and relaxing is what I need to keep focused, and other times I need something with some punch to keep me alert. So please, no canned tunes.... I'll bring my own and keep it turned down so no one outside of my immediate personal air space can hear it (or put on my headphones!). :-)

I am lucky as I have an office to myself. I love music whilst I work, I tend to use my ipad to listen to the radio on the net. My boss doesn't seem to mind but I normally turn it off when she comes in so we can talk without my music in the back ground.

I'd love to play music at work, but the one time I did, using headphones to cut out the noisy three-way telephone conversation behind me, it triggered an 'all staff' email about NOT using personal stereos/earphones in the office. no explanation as to why not.  |

I'm able to stream our university's radio station through my monitor's speakers. They play a mix of classical and jazz so it's nothing that could be considered inappropriate. (Conducting along to "Flight of the Valkyries", however, may be frowned upon if seen by the wrong people! Oops!  ) |
