Just wondering how many of my fellow DDers have had the opportunity to travel for business. If so, where to? How long were you away? Was it a good productive trip? Any travel fopaws to share? If you do travel, do you like it? If not would you like to? Looking forward to hearing from you.

Been on several trips... to Las Vegas, Alburqurque (sp? too early yet!), San Francisco, Baltimore, St Petersburg (FL), New Orleans, Washington DC and area. I drove to St. Pete and New Orleans, as they are short (to me) trips in a car and I try not to fly unless I absolutely have to. Enjoy traveling overall, though airports are a pain in so many ways. My longest trip was over 3 weeks, with my shortest trip being for 3 days. Most fall right around a week long, including travel days on front and end. I love to travel with my job. Most of my travel is for training, and I enjoy gaining more education in my field or being the instructor. It's also a paid vacation from my family.  Love them, but the break is good all the way around. Hubby appreciates what I do around the house more after he's had to do it all, and the kids appreciate mommy more when she's been gone. Hope to be traveling again soon!

Almost never directly related to business. Most of my travel is related to IAAP related business with occasional personal trips thrown in.

once did: 1) day trip to Holland delivering mediation bundles 2) 6 weeks living in a suitacase in Cork, but travelling home for the weekends! Both were brill and on expenses (yay!)

I travel regularly, but not frequently, on business. The travel is mostly to our conferences and meetings outside London. Most of my travel has been for one day only trips, but there are occasional overnight stays and, for our conferences, several days away. We travel to Europe and the States roughly once a year. I generally enjoy the trips, depending upon the purpose. If I have to make several journeys close together, that is when I realise I couldn't physically travel a huge amount as part of my work.
Most of the travel I do is by train. Occasionally, flying is the only practical option. This is a bit of a challenge because domestic flights in Britain are almost as difficult as international ones.
I prefer meetings to be as short as possible in order to achieve desired outcomes. I don't particularly enjoy "business lunches".

Our Regional Offices (usually a day - sometimes o/n) - drive/fly. Overseas - France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Spain - sometimes a day(!) but usually o/n - longest been a week for a conference.
I also don't like the business lunches - prefer to keep working - get in, get on and get out. It's nice to meet people that I deal with over the phone and through email etc face to face though. I do find travelling stressful and tiring.

I've only done one business trip and it was for software training a few years ago. In our organization the admins are the ones who stay back in the office to "mind the store". I really can't think of any admins in our organization who actually travel. 99% of us do all the organization, planning, research, packing, shipping of materials, and other prep work from the office and then brief an assistant director or manager on what's been done and what will need attention once on site. The briefing packets usually end up needing a binder to hold it all. Then they call us from the site asking us the questions that were answered in the briefing and in the binder anyway!
