As I don't want to risk Locog's wrath with trademark infringements, I hope you understand the title of this thread. I was just curious who will be: 1) watching the games? 2) in London to watch the games? 3) in London to try to watch the games? 4) in London to try to avoid the games (ie work)? 5) burying their head in the sand at the shear pettiness of the modern commercial world?  I am most definitely number 4 AND 5! |

Oh Jess I might just watch the opening ceremony and the odd bits but that will be about it. Definitely not heading to London - I hate the place I am afraid, not a big city person. Anyway have far more exciting this to do to keep me occupied  Hope those that are going have a great time though. Coz |

Will definitely watch some of the opening ceremony tonight - keen to see who is getting to light the cauldron as they've managed - so far - to keep that tightly under wraps. And of course to see Chris Hoy (Sir) carry the flag, but not all the team will be there as some are in the training camp in Portugal still!
As for the rest of the Games, want to see the tennis and swimming, will no doubt watch some of the track and field stuff (things I just could never do) and generally admire people's commitment to sport. So I guess I am a '1'.
We're having a just for fun office sweepstake based on medal haul. For my £1 I've got the Marshall Islands, Equatorial Guinea, Paraguay and St Vincent and the Grenadines!
And of course I've bought a ticket for tonight's lottery with how many is it - 100 or more guaranteed millionaires? Gotta be in it to win it and I don't often buy a ticket! My sister and I are both fantasising about our spending spree!

Part of me wishes I could be there to watch, at least some of it, in person. But... since I'm not and won't be, I'll be watching bits and pieces on the telly. I'm not big on the summer games, seem to be more interested in the winter ones, but there are still some that I just have to glimpse now and again. Will avidly watch the gymnastics, as that is something I always wished I could do and just never was meant to be. Can someone tell me when Trampoline became part of gymnastics in the games?  ? Interesting! |

I might watch bits and pieces, but only on telly. I did sign up to find out about tickets and have had lots of emails but the events I'd wanted to go for were way outside my spending capacity, what with everything else I've got going on.

yeah,tickets still available for tonight! At £2012 I don't think I'd bother either!
As for trampoline, CG, I don't know, but do seem to remember something about the introduction of different events for each Games - I believe the host city can nominate things. But I could be completely wrong!

We will watch opening show and catch odd bits, but it's not a big item on my radar. I prefer Winter version more than summer.
It was a big deal when it was here in Atlanta in '96, I went to Centennial Park but did not see any of the actual events. The traffic around town was supposed to be a nightmare, in reality it was a breeze because everyone believed the media hype and got out of town or worked from home.

Our main broadcaster has given over the entire evening - from 7 pm till about 1 am! for the opening event, which doesn't start till 9! I think this will mean around two hours of speculation about who will light the flame in the Olympic Stadium as this has been fairly well guarded up to now. I think we'll dip in and out for these two hours and then watch most of the main event.

I'm planning on watching the opening ceremony tonight at home and I'll try to catch some of my favorites (gymnastics, track, swimming) when I can, but I'm not specifically scheduling my time around those events.
My favorite part about the whole thing is the stories about the athletes, where they came from, their trial and tribulations, and how they arrived to where they are today.

Can't wait - big fan. Really looking forward to Opening Ceremony - guess because I am a Londoner and I love London Town. Didn't get tickets :-( - but a friend has tickets to the final of men's 100m... but she is taking DH.
I know the Red Arrows fly before 9pm - so looking forward to that too.
I have faith in Danny Boyle.

Justified. The only thing he got wrong was inviting Paul McCartney to sing. As was proved at the Jubilee concert, he can no longer sing and it was truly embarrassing and cringeworthy to hear the pitiful rendition of what is such a powerful song (Hey Jude). Not the right song for this event either, expect it was chosen as they could run it on forever with the chorus.
But I know the Proclaimers for instance were in London as part of a tour, they could have been asked to come and sing 500 Miles or anyone else - Macca's not the only great British singer! Sir Tom Jones was due to sing at a free concert at Hyde Park last night but had to pull out due to chest infection but he would have been great! He still has it!
Everything in Hyde Park is apparently free.
Have become an armchair expert on beach volleyball, rowing, sailing, swimming, archery and shooting over the weekend!

Agree Jackie about the OC with Paul - oh dear. Lovely man, but he can't sing anymore - and where was Ringo...? They always wheel out PC for these big events but it is not needed. The event was amazing enough, with so much going on I couldn't take it all in.
Lighting the flame was stunning - then the fireworks - and I thought, this is so fitting, the colours lighting up the sky - now I can go to bed. But no, Hey Jude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more, please.
Now it's on - I am enjoying it all. However, I do wish they would sort out the empty seats - it's Wednesday and still going on?

I have been watching as much of my favourite sports as I can: equestrian, gymnastics, tennis, and fencing. I enjoyed the opening ceremony very much, although I quite agree with the observations about Sir Paul McCartney. Mr Bean was totally hilarious. e.
