I'm interested to know what people will be doing for Christmas this year. Does your office have an annual party or dinner? Who organises it? How much of an effort is made?

With over 500 employees Lauren, we usually go out in our own departments.  Our company hosts a Christmas dinner in the canteen usually first or second week in Dec - 2 sittings per day and everyone is allocated a ticket.

Since I am moving departments/buildings at the end of the month, I have no plans this year.  A lot of us have yet to find out which department we belong to. Roll Eyes

My boss will take his direct reports out to lunch (usually). The departments usually have potluck lunches (due to size).

Our company pays for lunch and we get a half day off to boot.  So about 50 or so of us will be heading to a city centre restaurant that's doing a traditional Scottish ceilidh with dancing!  I can bus home very easily from there, so just have to work out how to get to work for the morning!

We have a nice dinner, and that is enough. It's hard enough to plan on it during the holidays with so much activities going on during that tme of year, but we all do make the extra efforts to go as it's only once a year.

When the department was smaller, we'd close the department down around 2:30 and head out for a late lunch, from which we'd all head home.  However, as the department has grown to almost twice its size, (and therefore handling a lot more work!) it's become almost impossible to get everyone's calendars to work for that.

So this year, we've put out the idea of a potluck lunch with the other departments on our floor, setting up stations in the various reception areas and encouraging people to wander around in order to get a sample of everything (and, hopefully, getting to put names with faces).  I'm ashamed to say there are folks on this floor that I talk to on the phone and email all the time, but I'm not sure WHO they are in person!  Embarrassed

Our company is not have a Holiday Party this year.  It was not deemed appropriate in the current economic climate.  However each department will be having a pot luck or other type event.  I will be hosting (hopefully) my third annual Cookie Exchange - last year's theme was cookies of your national origin.  I have some very interesting recipes from that swap!
