If your office telephone lines were down, would you use your personal mobile?

No ... but that's because I have an office mobile. On the other hand my business mobile is so basic and naff I might opt to use my iPhone instead of being seen with the work one Cathy

Nope - I would expect company to sort out alternative phones for use in this situation. If not, then no calls are made until lines are fixed. Oh Cathy - didn't know you could be so vain !!!

not vain ... just embarrassed by a phone that has virtually no functionality ... and a useless manual! We get issued with a handsfree earphone set but no instructions ... so I am too worried about accidentally cutting someone off to use it! The truth is they don't want us to use the features just the basic phone facility ... I am a child of the technoage used to mobile internet and so on ... can't help it! Cathy

I would use my personal cell, but since i would mostly just be calling to check the status of things, I wouldn't be making many calls.
I wouldn't be making telemarketing calls on my personal cell, for instance, if that were my job.
Often times an office fax machine phone may still work, as they are sometimes on a different solitary circuit from the other phones.

My personal cell phone is a basic, pay-as-you-go deal. It's my "emergency" phone. As in, "the car won't start", "the train is delayed", and "I've been waiting for 45 minutes, where are you?" emergencies. And I'm VERY protective of the number.
If the office phone lines were down, I'd only use my personal phone in a drop-dead emergency. As in, something that would put my or my boss' job on the line.
Now, admittedly, my view may be colored by the few years I spent as a teacher and I remember how much STUFF I bought for my own classroom out of my own pocket -- including the chalk for the chalkboard! It ran into the hundreds of dollars - unreimbursed. (And it's not a dollar for dollar reduction on your taxes either.) So I have a bit of a problem with employers expecting employees to just spend their own money to do the job they're doing for the employer. Particularly when you consider that, in most place, the admin is not exactly the highest paid employee.

No, there are enough people with office mobiles who could use these if required, including my boss.

I have a company cell, and would only use my personal one if absolutely necessary.
Our lines were down last week because someone in our locality cut through a phone cable in the street. It was blissfully quiet.

Office telephones down? No problem!
Entire office may as well be down - we have some computers up, all the printers/photocopiers powered up, the lights are on and we have no air conditioning!
I am glowing profusely and my cami top ... I needn't say anything further.
I am hot and bothered and still expected to work! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I can log on to Orange online and send texts for free. It's handy when I need to get messages to anyone who is travelling.
Generally though no, I would not use my personal mobile to make calls.

If I needed to make a call to my boss and let him know the lines are down and if he needed me, call my cell. Otherwise, I would enjoy the peace and quiet:) Would not make business calls on my personal cell.
