What do you think will happen this year with your company and Christmas? Will you have a holiday party? Will you buy gifts for clients? Will you get gifts for employees? Will you decorate in the office? Has economic conditions changed this years plans from last years?

Each department here arrange their own Christmas get together and employees pay for it themselves. This year my department has increased in nos so the venue had to be changed in order to accommodate.
There is also a complimentary Christmas lunch for everyone in the canteen with various sittings spread over 4 days. As far as I know this is still taking place...I haven't heard anything to the contrary.

This year will be the first that there will be no employer paid for evening Christmas party for staff and their partners. Instead we're having a meal out at lunchtime for all those that wish to participate. Staff are paying for this lunch themselves and we're trying to keep the price down as much as we can. Everyone is feeling the pinch this year...there's been hardly any interest in two different attempts at organising an evening do paid for by employees.
We do not buy for or receive individual gifts from clients as it's against company policy.
Not sure yet about Xmas decorations in the office. Will have to ask line management if it's wanted.

We are having basically the same party as last year, employee only, one afternoon during the week. The office is decorated the same also as I think the decorations we a one time major purchase and meant to be resued for many years. As for gifts I am definitely scaling back. I found extra large muffin cups and will bake 3-4 different types of cookies to fill them with. Put in a treat bag add a bow and done. I will gift my boss with something, just haven't figured out what!

Director and his wife normally take us out for an evening meal normally on the day we finish work and partners come too. There are only 5 of us in the company though now so normally about 9/10 for the meal. Director's wife organises it and not sure if it is happeneing yet this year or not.
As for decorations, we don't bother apart from a little christmas tree that a co-work and I put up on our desk with lights on it.

This year will definitely be scaled back. I surely hope we do not receive an e-mail from HR inviting us to a catered holiday party at a hotel since we have laid off part of the work force and are now taking forced furloughs along with the many other cost containment initiatives implemented. I plan to give boss a gift, but that is it. Since the income has shrunk, and cost continues to rise, I am having to really cut back.

We're have a party for staff & partners, with dinner and wine at table free and then a reduced bar. There will be a disco or band as usual. We have a raffle, too, with staff donating prizes and with the money raised going to a charity or two. It's in-house (we're a college) catering and venue so not as expensive as a restaurant or hotel.
No change at all.
I'll exchange gifts with my boss - nothing grand, I made sloe gin and a decadent fudge and will do something similar this year (the gin is to die for!). I have one really good friend here at work and will do the same on that front.
But it's very much a pared-down gift buying / giving family & friends this year - no-one can afford otherwise.

We will have a staff party, as in previous years, paid for by our company. It is never a particularly lavish affair and consists of a jolly good dinner and entertainment somewhere here in London not too far from our offices. About an hour before the company events begins, we have our "secret Santa" gift giving, which is fun, a drink or two and some nibbles.
We need to keep the offices looking business-like and so our decorations are very modest. We put up a Christmas tree in our reception and we also have one in our staff room. We don't decorate the offices, although we display Christmas cards and some people will have seasonal plants around their desks/offices.

I am hearing that our company is going to have an all employee event. Usually they do that in October, but this year they are pushing it back to become a holiday party. It will be a catered affair with lots of prizes, some entertainment.
Individually, my boss takes his department heads and direct reports to lunch. I expect that to happen again. The individual departments usually have a small lunch party.

With our newly merged departments, I really don't know what we'll do. My gut is telling me that there will probably be some kind of potluck something-or-other, which is fine.
For gifts, with 10 more people this year, I'll just bake some goodies.
Honestly, and I realize this may make me sound like a Scrooge, but I almost wish my workplace would just forget about it. Combining that with all the end-of-calendar-year stuff that we have to do, and all the personal commitments, etc. etc., it just gets to be too much.

As ever, we'll be having an employee-only Christmas lunch on site. There is a school within the grounds; that will have closed, and we'll use their dining facilities and staff. Various departments will arrange their own Christmas festivities too - the building I'm in has arranged an evening meal for staff and select senior management  Maybe a drinks party somewhere as well - glass of wine and nibbles. Presents - not a lot really. I don't exchange with anyone else in the office, as I work very much on my own. Maybe a bottle of something alcofrolic from my boss though! |

I was in a large department store yesterday which was decorated from top to bottom in tinsel and other Christmas decorations. Can't the kids celebrate Halloween first and why oh why can't we keep Christmas in December? We've got 8 weeks of this to go yet!  |

Totally in agreement with you about this Gee. I'm already fed up with a certain catalogue company advertising about Xmas lists etc.  Doesn't want me want to make me feel any more Christmassy than I would do. I like to wait until December to get into the Christmas mood although I will admit to having bought a couple of presents that I have to post and want to send off when the post service is functioning normally. |
