Hi everyone

Apologies to start with for the long posting but I just have to soundoff about my position.  I started off as a PA to 2 people in this particular department; my job then changed to take on a small role of organising teaching for medical students; my job then changed from being PA to the original 2 people plus organising teaching plus organising examinations for medical students.  I am now organising examinations for medical students both clinical and written, plus being senior secretary over 3 other secretaries.  I have come to live with my changing role but of course with these roles (none of which I have asked for!!!) has come the changing of offices.  I started off in an office to myself with a window which looked immediately out onto a large steel container (but at least it was a window and I could see a tree out of the corner of it!).  I was then moved into an office with no window but still to myself; then moved into another office with a window and half a view; then I was moved into an office with 4 other secretaries.  Then 2 of the secretaries were moved out into an office just off of the lift area and I shared an office with 2 other "teaching" secretaries.  Then one secretary left.  Then my colleague and I were moved out into another office just off of the lift area which we have to share with 3 hospital technicians, with no windows, dodgy air conditioning which has quite a downdraft(!!!), with daylight lightbulbs which send us home with headaches every day and one telephone line which we were told would be just for myself and my colleague to use as we have to contact students and other academies etc. and we are using the phone all the time and now this line is being shared between the technicians as well.  The next thing will probably be the technicians asking us to take messages for them etc. etc. and we will end up being just general dogs bodies.  All these changes have happened over a timespan of 4 years (I have been with this employer for 26 years altogether).  My colleague and I are beginning to feel like second class citizens that can just be picked up and plonked down wherever the floor manager thinks she can put us.  Emphasis in this department is on research and not on teaching and yet it is a teaching establishment (within a hospital) and my colleague and I are fighting to keep our heads above water the whole time.  Any advice would be gratefully received as would hearing if others are in a similar situation.  Also, the pay is not brilliant particularly as I have examination data to deal with but my pension is tied up with this employer and 26 years worth plus death in service is a lot to throw away!

Is this a "sound off" or are you seeking our advice?

Best wishes,
