I got the call yesterday and I got the job!!! I am very excited and nervous at the same time. This is a position that will take me out of my comfort zone. I thought I would be really happy about leaving where I am now and excited about the new job but because this is a totally different type of position with a lot more responsibility, I am having some self doubts that I can do the job although I know I can do it and so do they.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get myself out of this feeling like I made a mistake and can't do it? I'm not sure if I am just feeling this way because it will be my 40th birthday on Saturday and I am now changing career paths and it is making me nervous.
Thanks for letting me vent. I guess I better get back to work.
Susan

Susan!
Firstly - Congratulations on getting the job. It's always very exciting and nervewracking when you make the decision to leave ( having been through it myself just recently) And it's especially nervewracking if you feel that you'll be out of your comfort zone but take some comfort in knowing that if the company didn't think it was something you could do, you (probably) wouldn't have been offered the position. And you probably wouldn't have applied for it anyway!
I'm now 4 and 1/2 weeks into my new job and loving it more each day! Still in touch with friends at my former company and they make me feel even better about leaving all that c*** behind.
I had a few doubts (as some on this forum will no doubt remember) umming and ahh-ing about whether to accept this position or wait for another one to come along and I'm so glad I realised what an idiot I was being - thanks in some part to the great advice I got here. It's a classic case of "grass is always greener" and "careful what you wish for" ... go for it and just enjoy the challenge. You know you can do the job.
Finally, congrats too on reaching the big FOUR OH!!! I saw that one a good few years ago (ouch) have fun on the Big Day.

Many congratulations, Susan, on your new post and your birthday.
It's normal to have butterflies about a new job: can I do the job? will "they" like me? will my colleagues like me? etc, etc.
This is an exciting opportunity for you and a great challenge, and I wish you every success.
Cakes for tea all round then. I'll put the kettle on.
Best wishes,
Raindance

Susan,
Congrats! Way to go and Happy Birthday! I am sure that you will do fine - just give it some time to adjust and you will get the hang on things without a doubt.
And, like all of us - you have a network of support that will get through it all without hesitation.
Best of Luck!
P.B.

I have always found that once you have a new job to go to the old seems really nice and good and you wonder why you’re leaving in the first place! However are you deep deep down sure you can do this role? Or is there a gremlin saying you can’t do this? Are you listening to him?

Thanks for all the great feedback. I have over the past few days gotten such great feedback from the people I work with that have given me the nudge and the confidence to know that I will do great on this job. I thought I needed to be a different type of person - where I am very soft spoken and sometimes takes things personally and I thought that since I was that way, I would not be able to handle being an adjuster. I now know I can do it and cannot wait to get out of here tonight and start my new job on Monday.
