ISTR in my last company that negotiations were being entered into to purchase a block contract for the above - staff with PCs would be able to send SMS messages to people out in the field using their computers, rather than phoning them.  Then I left - so no idea what happened.

Has anyone had experience of such a service, and can any one recommend a provider please?

I have previously used Orange website as I have a mobile contract with them.  It was only on a temp basis for a manager I supported and it worked well as he travels quite a lot.  I got 25-30 free texts per month.

I am sure you could inquire about a block contract and get a few quotes from various providers.

We use a system called Autopage which allows pc-based staff to text our field staff.  We're on the Orange network, so I'm not sure if Autopage is for specific use with Orange, or whether it's compatible with other networks, but it works very well.

I also use orange - having a personal account with them.  I have also used the genie.co.uk website to send messages and I seem to remember you get a set amount free but can purchase additional blocks - perhaps this is worth investigating?  I think vodafone probably do something similar but I haven't looked into it.

It might be worth approaching your contracted mobile supplier to see if they can offer you some kind of deal?

Orange now have a system called PC Messenger which you can download onto your Outlook Email & use to send SMS texts from your desktop - we've been using it for a few weeks now & it's great!

They charge you as part of your normal orange contract - try www.orange.co.uk for details
