I have really good relationship with my managers but it our workplace all PA's are answerable to the Personnel manager. She positively dislikes me- dont know why but I am pregnant and go on maternity leave in November and have just had my first weeks sick since i started with the company 2 years ago. Found out she has been ferreting through my desk and outstanding filing, throwing some of the useful stuff we PA's keep in our desk and been slating me to my directors whilst I have been off- really dont want to go in on monday as I know she will be spying on me!!!!!!

Sounds like she is prob preparing for when you go off on leave - making sure nothing gets overlooked etc. Sometimes managers react in different ways to PA's - they have more responsibility to the director and the company in that everything must run smoothly despite absences including maternity leave. After all she prob has to report into someone also.
Can you lock your desk at the end of the day before you go home? Suggest a 1:1 with her prior to the commencement of your maternity leave. Compile a list of stuff you have completed, stuff that is in progress and stuff to be addressed. Always try and be one step ahead of them - it shows you are pro-active and that you're not just thinking about going off on maternity leave. Yes you have that to think about but you are still employed, and in work providing a service to your boss and the company.

she doesnt allow us to have keys etc and knows that I am in the process of preparing for when I go on Maternity leave - I think she finds it hard as i am only the second person in the company to get pregnant in 10 years!!!! she doesnt have any children- she gets really jealous at times and doesnt like it if you know more than her!!!!!

I can understand your frustration with the situation. The same thing happened to the expecting mothers is at previous place of employment. The only advice I can give you is try to keep your cool (you and the baby will benefit from this) and document everything you can. How you do things, when you do things and who you do certain things for - this will help whoever is stepping in while you are out and show that you are planning ahead and not slacking off. Please try not to let her bother you too much. come and vent here - let your stress out don't keep it in - that gives her too much power. If nothing else, just keep thinking along the lines of that she has her job to do and you have yours. You will not always agree or be happy with her but in the end you get to go home and leave her behind. Best wishes for your forth coming bundle of joy. Much good health and happiness to you and yours!
