Hi there,
I'm delurking here as I have a query I'm sure you can help with!

I'm wanting to apply for some PA positions in the UK...can anyone recommend where I might look?

I have the skills but have never formally held a post as a PA. Is ther any traning course that is worth doing?

Thanks for any advice.

Rebecca

You don't say where you are but am goig to make certain assumptions.  What you need is a copy of The Times (each Wednesday) for the Creme section, The Guardian (on Monday's I believe) and a few choice web pages such as www.thisislondon.co.uk (link onto london jobs).  Lots of jobs advertised each time I look for something.

Hope this is a good start.

Jess (in London and bored witless as couldn't go to summit)

A warm welcome out of lurkdom.  I'm sure that as others check in they'll have lots of advice for you.  As I'm in the US, I don't have much useful advice for you on this request.  I did want to welcome you though.

Thanks!

I'm based in the South East.

I had a look at the Guardian but it was all London jobs.

Are there any specialist recrutiment agencies that might help?

Hi Rebecca

If you are looking for an agency in the south-east, a good place to start is the
Recruitment and Employment Confederation's (REC) web site. It has a large database of recruitment companies in all different sectors all over the UK.
You can find it at www.rec.uk.com

Officeteam in the UK, who were HUGE supporters of the International Secretarial Summit and who have several offices around the UK would be a great place to start.

You can find them at www.officeteamuk.com to find the location which is near to where you'd like to work.

I recently attended a course by Skills Path (altho I am and have trained as a PA).  It was called the Indispensable Assistant.  I learnt some things I didn't know and others I had already done and put into practice.

The trick is to show your boss as a great person by providing an excellent executive support service to either him personally or his/her team.  That way you will earn promotion quickly and be recognised for your own skills.

Good Luck!

Hi!
Don't forget 'fish4jobs' where the local adverts from the newspapers are published, and my favourite, reed.co.uk.
Good luck

I have had very good experiences with Hays Personnel if you would like the contact details please PM me and I will forward them to you . They are very friendly and work on a one to one basis.

I temped with Hays in May and June of this year - they messed up my wages even though I sent my P45 with my first timesheet.  I ended up having to claim for a tax rebate - just be careful with agencies.

It's funny how one experience varies from one person to another isn't. I did have reservations about agencies too before registering with Hays in Oxfordshire but they seemed to do the job - after all they did place me as a temp with the company I now work for. I think agencies can be a good thing once you know how to utilise them to their full potential.
