I ordered a bunch of supplies from the {insert famous planner company} Co.  A lot of people here use their planners.  That was September 4; it usually takes about 10 days for them to finally get stuff to us.  Meanwhile, I ordered some other stuff from them on September 14.  That stuff got here today; the first order never did.  I called {Famous Company} to find out why, and they said that our mailroom rejected the package twice the day they tried to deliver it--September 12.  The company decided not to accept any packages on September 12, because why?  {Insert podunk cow town in the middle of nowhere, America} is a hot terrorist target?  Anyway, when they didn't accept packages, apparently they didn't bother telling the couriers to redeliver the packages later in the week, so anything anybody ordered via {big brown courier} has now gone back to its origin.  I called the bonehead mailroom supervisor and he told me "I don't know anything about how various couriers might have interpreted our decision not to accept packages," and "I was just following the decision of the Executive Leadership Team," whoever that is.  I pointed out that all these packages had gone back and he said, "Uh huh."

Walk calmly to the nearest brick wall.  Stand with toes just touching wall.  In a repetitive motion, move head forward and backwards.  Feel the sensation of accomplishing something.

Hoo boy, I think I've met these people.  Initiative and clarification of instructions are not part of their vocabulary.  I sympathize greatly.

First I'd like to applaude the descriptive way you got around company names.    Very colorful!

Second, Don't you just love the "I don't know anything about it" followed by the "I was just following orders from someone on some planet...don't know who or why"... Ummm - can't have it both ways!  You either don't know anything about it or you were just following orders!  And who follows orders from someone they don't know?? I mean, it could have been a terrorist telling them that for all the clarification he got...

I sympathize with you!

Makes me all the more grateful that the mailroom I supervise is NOT staffed by boneheads!

I asked #1 Bossie if next time we decide to refuse packages, maybe we could tell the mailroom to tell the couriers to come back tomorrow.  He said, "Are we going to be hearing about this all day?  It was a PERSONAL package that YOU were receiving at WORK.  You reordered it, it's over with."

Um, no, I wouldn't use {Famous Planner Company}'s stuff if my company didn't insist upon it, as I find the binder part too thick and bulky and the pages not all that well laid out for my purposes.  The day I leave here I will buy a much smaller, slimmer planner to use for myself.  So this was company business, company account, bad company policy.

I am so glad I'm going away for a long weekend, before I wear a hole in the wall with my head.

Amusing postscript: Famous Binder Company managed to get my reorder out much faster than they usually do with an order.  Normally it takes at least 10 days--this reorder was here for me today.  No thanks to the mailroom geniuses.

I am a little curious as to Bossie #1's response.

Either:

1) You really were ragging on the subject and had brought it up one too many times. Oh well, we all do that sometimes when we get a bee in our bonnet....

OR

2) Your boss does NOT have the respect for you that he should and I would be having a serious few minutes of face to face conversation with him if that were me.

He's not usually that disrespectful.  He falls short in some ways, but not usually in that way.  So I don't know what got his undies in a bunch and I'm not going to lose sleep over it.  He's all back to normal now.
