Anyone working this week?  It is so quite on the phone, people and online!   I hope those who are working have a peaceful week and to everyone a safe and great new year.

Since it is "quiet" this week, we took this opportunity to have a "filing party". Dress down day, pot luck with all the left over holiday treats, and review all our file drawers to get ready for end of year. It was a surprisingly productive and fund day!
Hope this post finds everyone relaxing and regrouping after the hectic Holidays!

I am working, although 1/2 (or more) of the parking lot is empty. Will be even more empty tomorrow, as it's only a half day so a LOT of people took it off. Definitely a good week to catch up on filing.

Even quieter today with less staff in.  Am now up to my eyes in filing but I know I will feel good when I've done it all so when I return in the new year, I'm off to a positive start.

Wish I could have bought my ironing in to work and done a huge basket load - now that would have made me happy  Cheesy

You all seem to have mountains of filing to do at the end of the year...how come?

Not just filing, I am also archiving, shredding and so on, having a general tidy up of files, preparing new ones and making room for what 2012 will bring.

Oh I do that on a regular basis, but never have that much to archive, shred or clear out.  I can see how a university or further education insitution might be different though.

Some people are just soooo efficient - sigh Wink

I'm no longer at Uni - have moved onto a far better job, best I have ever had - busy environment, great people to work with, good prospects. I'm so lucky.

Wishing all on DD a great 2012 and hope it brings you all your families good things and more

Yeah I guess so.

But it's all about time management.  Simples!

In an ideal world it would be 'simples'!

I have attended many time management training courses over the years and have come away from all of them with new ideas that I could put into practice - in theory.  But..... once you return to the real world, sometimes it is difficult.

For example, in the current climate, when someone leaves, they are not replaced and their work is then spread out between other secretaries, this then means that you are not only doing your own duties, but having to take on extra work and fit this in - somehow. As much as I love my job, trying to get it all done is often impossible.  And what gets put to one side if filing, shredding, archiving and similar jobs - hence the quiet Christmas time when for me at least, things are quiet and such jobs can get done.

If anyone has tips for ways around this 'problem' I'd love to hear how you manage.

It sounds to me like you generate too much paperwork.  Surely there must be ways to reduce this...less printing, shredding or filing on a more regular basis?

A few years ago I worked in a paperless office and I now find it extremely difficult to revert.

Thankfully in my company senior management take laptops to meetings so don't even print agendas or minutes any more.
