My 10-year-old has been learning to touch-type at school in his computer classes, since age 6. The teacher puts a tea towel over the children's hands so they cannot see the keyboard. He now types much faster than my husband, who never learned touch-typing. He only cheats on the top row with the numbers--as so many people do who don't type for a living!
