That's so stupid! So instead of taking advantage of your skills for as long as they may have been able to keep you, which may have been for long-term as far as they knew, they opted to spite themselves by simply not taking that risk and losing out even in the short-term. Short-sighted folks! And did they bother to talk to any of your previous bosses or any of your references and ask how you handle dis-organization by those around you? Seems like a weak excuse that they're hiding behind.
You're definitely better off not going there!
