I also use orange - having a personal account with them. I have also used the genie.co.uk website to send messages and I seem to remember you get a set amount free but can purchase additional blocks - perhaps this is worth investigating? I think vodafone probably do something similar but I haven't looked into it.
It might be worth approaching your contracted mobile supplier to see if they can offer you some kind of deal?
