Ah this takes me back only I wasn't supplied with a desktop accessory it was more of a toilet accessory - many years ago I worked in a small law firm in Bournemouth and the offices were formerly a bed and breakfast establishment so the building was really old and consisted of lots of small rooms and very dark corridors.  The ladies loo was situated at the back of the building at the end of a dark and extremely damp corridor and became infested with cockroaches.  In fairness to my employers they tried everything to get rid of them but to no avail.  Many of the secretaries became terrified of going to the loo because of the cockroaches running riot so the senior partner in all his wisdom decided to equip us with wooden mallets so we could bash the little b*uggers if they became threatening.  The whole episode actually turned into a sort of cockroach killing olympics and we even ended up with a monthly league table of the most kills - I must confess to being in my element - those were the days!!!
