My company too doesn't recognise it - in this area of the UK I haven't really seen these kind of days being celebrated (both of my recent companies haven't celebrated this) but again as previous posts have said - I'd much rather have my boss appreciate me every day by saying thank you (which he does on a regular basis)  and not take me for granted.
