Being a Federal employee, I think the biggest perk is being able to change jobs and move to different locations without losing senority and retirement benefits.
Since 1981, I have held the following jobs in the following locations:
Personnelman - U.S. Navy, Pensacola, FL
Clerk-Typist - Norfolk, VA
Military Personnel Clerk - Norfolk, VA
Lead Education Technician - Norfolk, VA
Secretary (O/A) - Norfolk, VA, and Albany, GA
Secretary (Steno) - Albany, GA
My Organization is changing my title from "Secretary" to "Program Assistant" in the near future. Supposedly, this will allow me job flexibility and more opportunity for future promotions. We'll see...
