Well it would seem to me that your OB can just see you when she is still in the office (at what, 4 weeks, 5 weeks) and post-date a return to work. Certainly she can understand that you MUST return to work at 6 weeks, and you NEED that release to do so.
Doctors offices can be very understanding, I have found; they understand that no job = no money = no payment to the doctor, so they will cooperate on work related matters whenever possible - especially in your case where you are trying to work (not trying to get out of it....).
