How is it that King Fahd can rally the forces to build such a wonderful country for the citizens of Saudi Arabia, but other Islamic nations are torn apart, usually from within, by each other? I have started reading the WSJ insert about him, and it is fascinating.

It's hard to say. There are many dimensions of dynamics going on between the cultures of the Middle East countries. It's a hotbed full of controversy. And, I would venture to say that it's probably not always peaceful and calm in Saudi Arabia, either. I don't see a happy solution in the near future - there is too much deep-rooted fear and hate. Several hot topics: Too much history between the Palestinians and the Isrealis fighting over that little strip of land on the Mediterranean and the United States' involvement in that situation. The oil wealth and the power that goes with it. Lots of world politics and economics play a big part in the game between these nations.
As a result of this war on terrorism, I hope that improving and developing US foreign policy becomes a big focus for George Bush and future presidents. For too many years, we have been putting this on the back burner and forgot to turn the heat off. Now the pot is boiling over and we have to deal with cleaning up the mess. It will take many years to fix this Middle Eastern conflict and our relationship with those nations. It is very important that we do this right this time.
