..on the Typewriter! (Ma, what's a typewriter?) And there was a legal description I had to type in two different places--hello? Where's the copy and paste function? I did find something it does "automatically," though--when I leave the CAPS LOCK on and try to type numbers, it does all of the "swearing" for me!!

I still have to use one on occasion, have threatened to throw it away , but darn they won't let me. Still need it for those darn pre-printed forms that come thru, and at tax time for the 1099's that occasionally need to be hand typed, yuck!

LOL! I have to use one on occasion as well, but at least it's electronic and has a line print, so I can delete all my typos before it actually prints onto the paper.

I get laughed at all the time for refusing to get rid of my old IBM Selectric II - remember those? Unfortunately I can remember when they were the greatest things we knew.
The repairman advised me two years ago, that if it broke again, I should give it a decent burial because he was retiring and he was probably the only one left in Atlanta who knew how to repair them!

LOL I had to use one a couple of years ago b/c the LAN was down and we HAD to send out an important letter that afternoon. I had to type that darn thing five times before I got threw it without an error!
Sabrina... who thought it was archaic in high school to learn to type on an Apple IIe

Oh dear, and we finally got a chance to pitch ours. Of course, I didn't tell the boss that the platen knob was replaceable. It wasn't the only thing wrong with it, just the most obvious.
Everyone up front is much happier now - they have a computer with internet access.

Heck, we have at least 3 (IBM Selectric II's) in my company. Most of the time we use them for typing up single envelopes or package labels, but once in a while we get one of those forms that's best done on a typewriter.
(And yeah, they're all held together with bent paper clips and chewing gum. I don't know what we're going to do when the last typewriter repair shop in STL closes up!)

I've had to bring my portable electric typewriter from home on my last three jobs, because they got rid of ALL the typewriters in those offices.
We have a couple in the office I work in now, but they don't work well and no one seems to know how to fix them.
Who ever thought we'd see the day when we couldn't find a typewriter in a business office?

I have one in my office, shared by about 20 people, and if I had my way I'd get rid of it. One typewriter per 100 people is plenty in my eyes (and most of our forms and such are computerized now so it's even better). In the past 5 years I've only HAD to use a typewriter once... opted to use it two other times. Don't like 'em, think that anyone who sends a form non-electronically is archaic and needs to catch up, and have become an expert at making a word document match a pre-printed form so as to NOT have to use a typewriter to fill it in. (after the first couple, they got easy to do and now those are "computerized" too... maybe not the form, but the blanks are now lined up and saved as a template for any time I need them).
Why is it that I can type excellent and fast on a computer, but when it's a typewriter I can't type 2 words a minute without making errors - and always with carbon copies?! I swear I could hunt and peck and still make more errors than I do when I just sit and type full speed at the computer.
Now I'm boycotting typewriters....

You all made me feel better about keeping the one and only typewriter in our office. I get teased about it, but darn it, there are times when nothing else will do the job. I have to admit that it does have a strange touch and I am very tense about making typos. Going back to high school - we had Remington manuals!

In school I used to use my grandmother's old black one. You know those. The ones with the round keys that you had to manually use on the next line. But hey, I've now learned to appreciate all the wonderful things a 'puter can do!
