I didn't see either of ours on the list, which isn't surprising considering the roles these 2 bases play in the overall AF job.

I don't work on a base, but the one nearby is being closed (shipyard). This will be a huge blow to the economy in seacoast Maine and New Hampshire.

Our National Guard unit is being "realigned". It amounts to being shut down when you look at the number of jobs that will be lost. The amount of money spent on new construction projects on the base (one which is in progress at this moment) is staggering when you consider this training unit is being torn apart. I don't have the answer, just lots of questions.

Well, this is what I get for skimming and not really reading the list. Seems that part of the work here at Gunner Annex is scheduled to be moved. And wouldn't you know it? It happens to be the part that my hubby works with. So now we're sitting around waiting to see if we're moved, to where, etc. It could be up to a year and a half before we really know anything for certain, as the community is really lobbying against this closure. That would only leave the schools open on Gunner Annex, which really can't be closed but could be moved to Maxwell proper if more realignments occur. Sheesh. This community can not afford to lose 2,000+ jobs, much less the people that fill them and bring in that extra money into the community.
And personally, I'm not happy since we just bought 9+ acres of land, with the thought of building on it this fall. Now that has to be put on hold until we know whether or not we'll be here next year or the year after in order to get the return on it we'd need. Part of me wouldn't mind moving from AL, as it's not exactly top on my list of places to spend the rest of my life, but it was looking better with the land (our dream land actually!) and being able to build my dream home on it. Plus it's not far from my family in AR or hubby's family and my oldest kids in SC. I wouldn't mind being closer to my parents in SD, but beggars can't be choosers, and my parents are more willing to drive down to visit than any of the rest of the family on either side, so it works. This is just going to make the next year or so so much fun to wait through. And who knows where they'll give us the opportunity to move to. It may not be an improvement over AL, which would really suck. 'Course, hubby keeps reminding me that if they wait for approx 2 years to make a decision, then he can serve them with his retirement papers and then we're not eligible to be moved and would be able to stay here. So there are lots of irons in the fire now, thanks to this BRAC listing.
Next time I'll remember to slow down and really read the thing and not just believe what I've heard from other sources.
