Yesterday I started the new job.  Well, it's different.  I work at a university, and have gone from working on the administration side to the academic side (working for a professor vs. an administrative associate dean).  I wish I could say I'm thrilled and I love it, but it's just not how I'm feeling about it.  I faced some difficult to live with things yesterday, which I need to either get over or deal with professionally and with some finesse.  One thing - the workstation is ancient and soooo anti-ergonomic it ain't funny!  I need a new chair, and really a new desk.  Plus an ergonomic keyboard and a trackball.  I haven't brought it up yet because I don't want to walk in the first day & start spending money!

Trying to just get it to work for me - and get the monitor futher than six inches away from my nose - this morning I was crawling under the desk, etc., and found a daisy chain of extension cords, NOT surge supressors, and in the process of moving the monitor it crashed onto the floor.  The keyboard - may it rest in peace - broke it's fall.  I was really worried about the monitor, 'cause the casing kinda came off the back, but it snapped back on.  Of course, my new boss had someone in her office a few feet away when all the noise came crashing in, too...  Frustrating point here is that at my old place there was all kinds of support, which is really lacking here.  A new person at my old place would have had a choice of people to call and ask for help.  Here it's not so easy.  Larger vs. smaller, plus not knowing who to call or the people themselves vs. having them a few steps away.

The space is really small and lacks the privacy I'm used to.  But I'm not supervising or dealing with the same kinds of confidential information I used to either, so it's really not necessary.

Started classes last night, too.  So it was a loooong day.  And come to think of it, there may be some PMS creeping in here, too.  So maybe I'll have an attitude adjustment soon.  I hope so...  Undecided

Donna hang in there and give it a chance.  Remember that whatever you thought of the last job, you've left a comfort zone and it takes a while to settle into a new environment, although you do sound like there's a few things to be put right!!!

Keep us posted, I know you will . . .!
