I have a first-round interview with HR at a company on Monday. The placement agency believes I'll probably be called for a second interview with the potential boss later in the week, as long as I present myself well. I'm not in the least worried about an HR interview, but I do have only one suit, a black pantsuit. I usually wear it with a light or bright top. If I'm called back for an interview that same week, should I wear the suit again with a different top, wear a dress (I have a simple black wrap dress that I wear over a camisole as it wraps too low for wearing without!) or separates (jacket + pants or jacket + skirt that are not a suit or matched set)? I have been unemployed since early this month and am not wealthy anyway, so I can't run out and buy another suit just yet...

I've been wearing plain black trousers (pants) with a smart jacket which is quite eye catching and it works as well as a complete suit. I think the rules are less rigid now. If you can't afford another suit - and who can? - then mix and match or use different tops. Are they really going to notice what you're wearing as long as you're well turned out? I really don't think what you wear matters unless you go inappropriately dressed. Jackie, Peer Moderator www.iqps.org

True, true--I think I could upgrade my shoes as I still have a little left on a Christmas gift card, and then just wear different tops.

I know where I am, men wear a suit, but most females wear something similar to what's described above, except for the very top executive level.

I would wear the same suit but switch tops, add a pin or scarf. Good luck.

I've been in situations before during a job search where I had exactly one nice suit. I had plenty of daily work clothes for the office, but only one suit nice enough to interview in. I've never had any problem wearing the same suit to interview on different days, and it's never stopped me from getting a job offer.
I think most employers understand that we don't keep a closet full of suits and considering some of the things I've seen people wearing for interviews, appreciate that we make the effort to dress professionally, even if it's in the same suit. That is assuming, of course, that they even notice.
Good luck with the interview. Let us know how it goes.

Wear the suit, wear the suit! No matter if it's the same one, you can change the top for a second interview.

Wear the suit, Dettu. You can always dress up with jewellery and scarves. If you wish to wear your dress that can be dressed up with a jacket and accessories. My killer-outfits in which I landed my current job were a black suit for the first interview and for the second interview a plain black dress and a scrumptious red jacket. As long as you are immaculately turned out then you will look just fine and feel confident.

I haven't purchased any new clothes for my interviews. Here's what I've worn. I'll let you know if it was lucky (see my post from 3/25 on "Out of the Blue"). Initial coffee meeting - taupe skirt, white blouse, navy jacket and navy accessories & shoes. Yesterday at the company - black doublebreasted jacket, white blouse, dotted swiss crepe black skirt, black heels and modest silver jewelry. Yesterday I was "overdressed" for their office, but it felt right.
