Is anyone else a member of IAAP?  Have you been following the drama?
For those not - all chapters and divisions are being disbanded and branches formed.  Over 11,000 members have chosen not to renew since 2008.  The EFAM conference last year was in the red.
On the positive side:  I think the board is taking positive actions to make IAAP a viable organization for all age groups.  IAAP is 72 years old most members are also seniors!  Finally moving towards electronic testing and more online classes.  They are hoping to have focused location branches of 500 + members.
I just renewed my membership and am hoping for good things with change.

Although I think they are ultimately making some good changes, the way they went about disbanding the chapters and divisions felt completely unethical (legal, but unethical) and I think it will bite them in the butt with membership numbers. I hope they have a heck of a recruiting plan in place to replace those members they are bound to lose.

The 11,000 members includes a time period with political turmoil - just following the forced stepdown of an international president-elect, a $25 dues increase, a $50 dues increase plus a CP-U increase for the next 5 years, plus the global recession. So I think there are a lot of factors contributing to the decline.

My chapter experience was very poor, the only reason I renewed membership (at large only not chapter) the last year was for a planned conference discount.  The discount was then offered to non members to increase attendance.  I understand why they needed to offer the discount but I really felt it was a slap in the face!  If the conference had not been local it would not have been approved nor been cost effective.
I'm hoping the new "branches" will disband the old guard cliques (and I'm 53!) that made my local chapter so unappealing to me.  I also understand that "old guard" (some of them) put a lot of work and effort into their chapters, creating some unhappy campers.

Conclusion - I'll retain my membership another year (due to company sponsored) to see what happens, and really hoping the expanded training will be viable, affordable and relevant!

I looked at the proposed branch structure at EFAM and in my opinion, it's crazy. it would have made more sense to go with major metropolitan areas.

My branch goes from Peoria, IL to Green Bay, WI - a distance that takes 9 hours to drive. How can anyone with a straight face say that they offer local training and face to face networking with a once a year event in an area that size?
