I think that sometimes the young whippersnappers need to flex their muscles to feel powerful or out of shear ignorance. We need to explain to them that we are not mindreaders. Remember, if they are new to a "senior" position we have to train them well so that the next administrator that works for them will think they are a great boss!
My boss was promoted from the position of account manager and was just a "child" when we first started working together. Since I had more experience than he did, I had to "break him in" i.e. Please don't shout my name from your desk but call me on the intercom.
Now, almost two years later, he is a truly great boss who does things my way (only he thinks it's HIS way).
