A man is suing McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King and KFC for making him obese!! He claims that the ads lead him to believe their fast food is good for you. Riiiight...

I heard this on the radio driving home the other day.  This is a stupid as the lady who burned herself on coffee or any of the other 1,000 inane lawsuites.  Then they want to know why the courts are so tied up.  Personally, I feel that if everyone who filed these illegimate lawsuits and their sleazy lawers were fined for clogging up our courts so unnecessarily there would be fewer of them.

I don't know, it'll be interesting to see what happens. After all, they put warnings on cigarettes.

But where will it end?  Warnings on the food packages from the fast food companies? How about warnings on high-fat meats in the supermarket?  Or sweets?

I just really think that people are losing sight of personal responsibility and expecting the world as a whole to think for them.  It's been published that fast food isn't the healthiest food to eat and yet this man didn't know that eating fast food was not going to help him lose weight?  And did he even try?  What was his eating habit besides fast food?  Sheesh... I'm overwieght, but I'm at least willing to take the blame for it.  I think for myself, make my own decisions, and must live with the consequences.  It seems like that this is what the courts need to be teaching folks like this.

And sadly one of the front pages of one of the major newspapers over here, had the following headline: "£14 million inititaive to feed the hungry passed, American's sue fast food companies for making them obese what's wrong with this picture?" It's no wonder other countries view the US as arrogant and self centered at times , It's stuff like this that makes my blood boil. with all the good that we have to offer, it's very sad to see something like this getting world press.

What I find interesting is that he is basically comparing it to the lawsuits against Big Tobacco.

The problem with this is that the reason Big Tobacco lost was not because they had increased the nicotine, but because they lied about it.

You go girl!
I'm assuming that this story was in the States, but these stupid lawsuits happen in the UK too.  Recently a man who was also obese tried to get the courts to stop a local takeaway owner from opening his shop.  His argument was that he would not be able to stop himself from entering the shop and buying the "bad" food.  To be fair, he had been dieting for a couple of months and was doing quite well.  But he was convinced that opening the new shop near his home would send him over the edge.  If he didn't win, he said he was going to go to the housing department and get them to re-locate him!
