Thanks for the good wishes. We skated by with this one. We had some downpours from the feeder bands, but all in all, we were blessed to miss this one. My little city is full of folks from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle, though. The base where I work is housing close to 2500 Sailors and Marines who were evacuated from Pensacola. Bless their hearts; this is the second time this summer that they've had to evacuate. JusPeachy

We're here and safe in east central Mississippi. We lost power about 7:00 last night at home and was still not on this morning. Alot of limbs down and one tree. But, family is all safe and that's what matters.
Hope everyone else is safe! Marie

Have quite a bit of family in the lower part of Louisianna... most don't seem too concerned - but one set of relatives were in the evacuation area. Have a co-worker that is taking a cruise next month - she leaves out of New Orleans, so she's hoping her hotel and dock will remain intact!

Is there anything we can do? I'm really concerned about all those people...I wish I could take off and just go volunteer to help, but family responsibilities keep me here up north.

Prayers are definitely in order. Other than that, the best help you could give would be to volunteer or make donations through Red Cross. My area was spared, but the devastation to the west of us is horrible. They're trying to get people OUT of the area rather than let anyone in.

I'm finding myself very distracted by this. I keep going to the news web sites to see what the latest is. The magnitude is just mind-boggling. I wish I could do something active to help. But I also know that money is the best thing to send. Then the Red Cross can use it for food, clothing, shelters, transportation, whatever they feel is the priority of the hour. DonnaP99

Hi - I've been thinking about all you Admins down south and hope you are okay. I'm sending you my prayers. It's awful to think that not only have so many lost their homes, but their places of employment as well... Hoping to hear some good news from down there if there is any!

officeguru- From what I've seen on the news, it doesn't look like your co-worker will be leaving for her cruise out of New Orleans next month...
My prayers are with everybody down there. Really makes you stop and think about what you would do if it happened to you. Other than earthquakes, I think my area is relatively safe from natural disasters, not exactly sure where the fault lines are though. No rivers or levies close by. I would like to become more self-sufficient though. Been checking out solar ovens lately. Would help if power or gas were lost. Anyone have one or used one before? There are plans on the internet to build them or you can spend up to $250 and buy one. Seems like a lot of money to me. Lehmans.com has 2 they sell, one cheap and one expensive. Interesting site to check out though.
