I have also worked many years in the restaurant business and have even gone back to it on part-time basis occasionally when I needed a boost in the income.
At my previous position, we had our favorite restaurant deliver (catering not their main end business) deli trays and I always tipped at least 15%. Even now, with the occasional pizza delivery to the office, I'll tip 15%. I suppose it's because I've 'been there, done that' sort of thing.
