I was wondering what is a fast 10-key speed?  Also, is there a typing site that also tests that?

Thanks,

D.

Don't exactly know but guess (a calculated one) it is related to data entry i.e. typing speed of keys available on numeric key pad (0 to 9).

There must be some freebie test utility available on the net.

http://members.aol.com/testedok/kbstest/ has a small program you can download and use to test yourself, both 10 key and alphanumeric.

Yep, Naeem, thats what the 10-key speed I'm referring to is... the numeric keypad.  I'm curious what some companies look for in speed... or what they consider to be fast.

Thanks Bethalize, I will try that site.

I tried the test utility software (Thanks Beth) and got the following result (thanks to my date entry experience of 6 years ago. Presently I am out of touch of this and can easily increase it by 20% even though it is not that bad because 10,000 net key strokes per hour speed is considered to be very good, generally):

Name: NAEEM, Muhammad
Gross Keystrokes per Hour:   9,340
Net Keystrokes per Hour:   9,320
Accuracy:   99.79%
Total Keystrokes: 467
Total Keystroke Errors: 1
Test Duration (minutes):    3.00
Test Name: DE-numeric
Date and Time of Test: 05/29/2003 4:19:48 PM

Yep, I was actually, trying to get back here to answer the speed question on the 10-key speed.

Pretty much the target to shoot for is 10,000 kph with at least 97% accuracy.  Yeech, I probably couldn't get close to that these days!

LOL I once took part in a testing without realising it was the numeric keypad only and I hardly ever used it at that point (use it a little more now but still not a lot!)  Anyway apparently I did ok, but as it was about 14 years ago I can't remember what I got.  I prefer the full keyboard testing.  Last time I did a test at an agency (did one recently) I got 114 wpm with 100% accuracy which was good going, on a strange keyboard!

Just found a website for Data Entry 10key testing....
http://testedokonline.com/10keytest.html

It is really a good site for working on your speed for 10keying.  I have always been really fast at it...learned how to use a 10 key as a child....love to enter numbers.  Just did the 1 minute test several times and got up to 13,680 keystrokes per hour with an error rate of 1.
