 Sad

Hello everyone.  My boss started using the Dragon dictation programme whilst I was away on holiday and since I have come back he has not used my stenography skills in the same way as before.

Has anyone else dealt with this?  I am feeling somewhat flummoxed, as you can imagine, and after telling him that, yes, it was great whilst I was away and at weekends, but that I am now back and ready to go.  My dictation has drastically reduced and I am becoming concerned.

He has also advised others in the workplace to start using it too.... !

Does anyone have any advice to give me other than start looking for another job?

I am a Secretary/P.A. with great speeds and accuracy, but I need the daily dictation to keep it fresh and fast.

I hope you have some advice for me.

It's sad to say dictation is on it's way out.  The younger generation types faster than they speak if you count texting! For practice, I would pull some of the old tapes and replay to keep speeds fresh, even if it was on my own time.
Remind your boss the catch with dragon is it's can't tell the difference between their there and they're.  Plus from what I have seen of it you still have to do major formatting fixes.  Dragon is okay for quick one page letters.

At my last company, my boss sent letters over seas and received the docs back the next day.  He thought this would be a great way to reduce admin costs.  Until he saw the results, typos, English as a third language.  I think this is a new fad for your boss, he will soon tire of editing his own documents, is my guess.

I have and use Dragon Dictation on my iphone.  I am not sure if the paid product is more accurate but the version I use is good... to a point.  It is great for notes and getting general text body when I am away from the computer.  BUT there is NO way I would send any document out!  Many times it takes me longer to edit and proof it then it would to just re type the document.  My guess it may decrease some of the very small jobs but not for the important or longer jobs.
