Remember my post about when I should get the temp?  Well on Tuesday bossy #3 comes up to me and tells me that her and bossy #2 were talking and thought it would be best to bring in the temp Friday (meaning today) for 1/2 a day for training.

So I said, Oh is the temp going to be here the whole month?  Oh No!  She'll just come in for training on that day and then we'll call her back when you have the baby.

And Bossy #3 told me then didn't want to be spending the money on the temp if they didn't have to.

So I laid down my arguments as best I could but now Bossy #2 and #3 want to sit down and lay the cards on the table.  Give me some good points to show them how I need the temp there everyday the last two weeks of October.  My main thing is I don't want to bombaded the temp with a 1 day of training.  According to Bossy #3, she afraid I'll go early and if I go early then they're "screwed".  I'm thinking to myself that if they plan to hire this temp the way they want oh yeah they'll be screwed.

Help me out ladies!  (and gents!)

My suggestion? Go back to your original post and pull out some of the arguments listed there to support your position... and Good Luck.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but your bosses are men aren't they?  And its obvious they have no clue of what it takes for you to get your job done.

Have you tried pointing out to them that you will not always be readily available to answer questions while you are out?  There are going to be days that you are so tired physically and emotionally just from adjusting to having a new baby that you will not be mentally capable to train over the phone.  Maybe they think that that would be an option.   Also, ask them if they have considered that whoever is sent to train for the one day may not be available when its time for you to leave.  A lot of temps are looking for full-time work and if this one takes a job between now and then, what do they plan to do?

Good Luck.

...if I was sent on a month long assignment and only got 4 hours training, I wouldn't stay.

Unless your bosses want a parade of temps through the office while you're gone, they need to pay up some $$ and have her (or him) adequately trained.

Ask them to think of how much money lost productivity and re-training new temps would cost.

Why do they always think any old body off the street can do our jobs (which took US lord-know-how long to learn)?

"Penny wise and pound foolish".

Oh no no!  Bossy #2 and #3 are women! hahahaha!  I was talking to Bossy #1 who is male and he was oh yeah Bridge you're right your right.

I was looking at my original post and got some good ideas from there.

I told them that you can't expect the person I originally trained to be waiting by the phone to see if I gone into labor.  And Bossy #3 was "Oh no that won't happen because I talk to Robert (the recruiter) and he said it would be no problem"

I felt like saying I don't care what Robert said because if it was me I wouldn't be waiting around by the phone when I can make some money elsewhere.

Sigh!
