For any of our members who work and live in the area, how are you coping with this? I can't imagine trying to keep things at a normal level with this happening.

I also cannot imagine what it must be like. In fact, on my way into work this morning I pulled up to a four-way stop sign at the same time as a white panel truck. He very kindly waved me on, and as I went by all I could think of was that if I was in the MD/VA/WA area right now I would have been absolutely petrified of that truck! My heart goes out to everyone in the area. I hope there are no more killings/injuries. I pray that the police are able to catch him/her very soon.

I am in Baltimore, less than an hour up I-95 from where all this is happening. I drove within a mile of that school last Sunday, the day before the 13-year-old boy was shot. I have a 13-year-old boy. DD2's field trip was cancelled this week. All the schools are cancelling all outdoor activities (DD1's Homecoming Game was to be tonight). I am trying to remain calm, and keeping the dks calm. I just hope the crazy person slips up sometime soon so they can catch him! I feel so helpless - it's not something you can protect yourself against except if you stay inside your home, it appears! I've been following this story on the news here in England. Must be truly frightening! I hope all deskdemoners in the area are safe and well, too. I'm praying the authorities catch the sniper very, very soon.

I'm in the DC area (Northern VA). I, personally, am coping with it okay but it's just terrible that when you stop to get gas or are walking from your car to a store it runs through your mind "is this going to be the next one?". We shouldn't have to live that way.

Up until this weekend it was simply to far away for me to be to concerned. Then he struck in a town called Ashland Saturday night. Ashland is only an hour away from where I live. Today, all schools that are in localities along a 50 mile stretch of I-95 are closed. Where I live isn't on I-95, but I-85. We are closed because we share a tech center with one of the other localities and close every time they do. This morning, they caught someone and later today they will have a press conference to say yea or nay as to whether or not its really him. From what I've heard so far, they arrested a man in a white van (with 30 day tags) pulled up to a phone booth in the West End of Richmond making a call. This location is off of I-64 and quite a ways from I-95. Cross your fingers. Michelle  |

Apparently the two guys 'caught' has been handed over to the immigration department because of their questionnable status - so it looks like it is back to the drawing board.
Y'all be careful until this/these person(s) is caught

Unfortunately there was another one this AM. "Oct. 22 — Investigators in the Washington D.C. area are trying to determine if the latest shooting in Montgomery County early today was connected to the sniper who has killed nine people and injured three this month."
Please pray they catch the sicko!!

Something has to give soon. Personally, I believe the media is feeding this guy's warped ego. Publicizing (sp) his every action and all of their speculation is making things worse. Yes we need to know what is going on, but I watched the press coverage at lunch yesterday. They were just wasting film on the officers canvassing the area. I think the whole thing was a set up and the local yokols jumped on the chance to make national news. Central VA is a very conservative and quiet area for the most part. That's what makes living here nice. My girls are home from school again today. While part of me understands the liability issues the system is trying to avoid, the other part says that keeping kids out of school is only giving him more of a chance to hurt one of them. If they are in school, they are in a building and relatively safe. If they are out, the teenagers are more likely be out and about with their friends. In any case we shouldn't have to live like this. Michelle~ I totally agree with you. This person is totally ego driven and the media isn't helping one bit. I think they give too much information. Sure they need to warn people but we don't need to know every detail. I am sure this person is sitting back thinking that he has everyone fooled but he will slip up and be caught. I agree with you and the school situation, while as a Mom I would like to have my kids home and know they are safe but at the same time I don't want them to have to live in fear and not get to go about their normal routine. This is also feeding this person's ego, that he has the ability to alter everyone's lives. I have everyone back there in my thoughts and prayers and hope that they catch this person soon. Robin |

According to CNN this morning, they've arrested 2 men, connected them to the murder of a liquor store owner here in Montgomery AL, but that they are not saying they are the snipers. (of course, this was as of 6:45am CST) The men are arrested on Felony Weapon charges and are being looked at as possibly responsible for the sniper attacks, but they are not charged as that yet. These 2 men supposedly trained at Ground Zero Camp here in Alabama, too. Hopefully these men will be found responsible for the sniper attacks, so that Washington and the surrounding areas can be safe again. I also hope that the FBI is looking into the folks at this Ground Zero Camp to ensure that they're not training others for that sort of attacks. It's scary to think that if these are the snipers, they could have easily gone on their shooting spree down here and not stopped at just the one person. Just goes to reinforce, we're not really safe anywhere.
