Hubby has decided he would like a Jeep. Now, his car is starting to fall apart, so we got a sitter for this afternoon and went to the Jeep dealership near our house.

Hubby has 2 requirements: yellow, and dual tops. The dealership has one in stock, so we take it for a test drive.

Hubby pulls the Jeep out, we go about a mile, and he says "I've driven a new Jeep before, you drive it." So he pulls over, and we switch. On my way out of the vehicle, I nearly fall, because you have to pull your leg up so high I didn't realize it!

I get behind the wheel and go back the way we came. I know that there's a good stretch of open road close by, so I head in that direction. Hubby warns me, "Driving a Jeep is like driving a brick." So I don't really know what to expect.

I go about 1/2 mile, and we come to a stopsign at the top of a hill. I notice the engine seems to be running high, but figure that the road is wet (it's raining) and we're on an incline.

As I turn onto the street with the open stretch of road, I notice the engine starts running very high in order for me to get the speed up. The spedometer read about 40, and I was following a police car, so I figured I couldn't be going *too* fast. But the further we go, the higher the engine revs and the slower we go!

I pull into a church parking lot, put it in park, and we try to adjust the 4WD - I think maybe the Jeep somehow slipped into 4WD while I was driving. Well, Jeeps have to be in park or neutral to move from 2WD to 4WD... yet...

As I'm pulling out of the church parking lot, I'm barely moving. We're on a slight incline to get back onto the road, and the Jeep is moving backwards. Now, mind you, it's an automatic, with 6 miles on it!!!

I wait for traffic to pass and then pull out onto the road - but the Jeep is not able to get past about 10 mph! I pull over to the side, and hubby calls the dealership to tell them there's something REALLY wrong with this Jeep.

We're able to put the vehicle into 4-lo (for very low speeds) and go 18 mph back 1.5 miles to the dealership, where we immediately pull it into the Service area. Step out of the Jeep, the salesman shuts the garage door, and suddenly the garage is filled with the stench of something brand-new-rubbery-icky-burning!!!

The service manager takes a look under the hood, and tells us that this brand new Jeep with now 9 miles on it is going to need a new transmission!!!

I can't believe I killed a brand new Jeep!

Winkie!

What a funny story!  Too bad it really happened ... to YOU!

Anyway, don't feel bad - it's not your fault.  There was something previously wrong with that new Jeep before you drove it - you didn't really kill it.

So... inquiring minds want to know when you and DH will get back out there and start test driving new vehicles again?

SNA - thanx for the reinforcement, hehe.

Actually, we testdrove a black Jeep. Then filled out the paperwork to purchase a blue one. We'll find out on the financing tomorrow... of course, haven't driven the blue one yet... hehehe

Hey wait a minute!  I object!  Aren't all of you who purchase a Jeep or Dodge supposed to come to Baltimore so you can buy it from my DH?

Wow - did they even TRY to explain what happened?  Not a real strong selling point there.

Acftually, I drive a Jeep (Cherokee sport - the little one).  Four wheel on the fly.  It's great for the driving I have to do (Hey folks, it's ALASKA!

I love my little Jeep.

OK, fireproof, you're excused - but not the rest of ya!

I'm going to have to show dh this thread & ask him what he thinks of the Jeep you killed.  But I already know his answer - "I don't know, I'm not a mechanic!"

OK Guess what! I drove the new Jeep to work today, and didn't break it!

OK, so I did panic a little when someone seemed to be tailgating me, but then I realized, there's no back end to the Jeep - it's very tiny!

I made it in to work, safe & sound, hehe... and the Jeep still drives...

Well that's good news, hopefully you won't have to use any warranty with this jeep.  Enjoy it.  I'm actually saving up to buy one myself.  I can't wait!
