I was off yesterday and managed to catch the news at lunchtime about Prince William and Kate Middleton.  I thought it was very touching that he gave her his mother's engagement ring.

Hear Here, Gee.

Mind you, now we know we are in trouble - the feel good factor has been rolled out to distract the populous (hope it works 'cos the guys at work are miserable enough while nattering about x-factor and The Apprentice!) Grin

While a marriage is always good to hear about, do we really need to be bombarded on every news bulletin about details that are pointless to the average person in the street - such as speculation over the venue - why not just announce it when they have decided for anyone interested.  And do we really need to know what she likes to eat,  and what the food at their reception is likely to be and other such minutiae, as if it should matter to us?

Impossible not to hear it, Gee, really, really impossible............. you could be up a mountain on the other side of the world with no means of communication and still you would know everything in detail about everything......

But, if you like this sort of thing, great. I don't, just in case you couldn't tell. From now on, my lips are sealed, along with my ears, eyes.....  Lips sealed

Aww shame.  I think it's very poignant and always nice to hear good news instead of bad for a change.

I was a big fan of Diana so will be watching as her eldest son and heir to the throne starts a new stage in his life.

Why speculate on the venue, it's going to be Westminster Abbey.

As for the ring, anybody like to comment on that one?  I hope she's not superstitious and that she really really likes sapphires as that's a stonking big stone.  But Diana's ring - no way would I be wearing that one!

Personally I think she should not be wearing this ring - was she even given a choice?

If it was me, I would want a ring of my own choice without the 'history' surrounding the person who originally owned it being mentioned every time it is shown.  Even if I were her and actually liked this ring (whihch I don't) I would possibly wear it on occasions but for my own engagement, I would want my own ring.

Obviously you don't share the sentiment girls!  Roll Eyes

Both William and Harry were very young when their mother died....I think it's right they do something so Diana's memory can be part of the celebrations.  It has been done for a reason and I am sure Ms Middleton knew about it beforehand.

Can't believe your comments.  Guess it's just as well he's not marrying either of you two!

Everybody has their own opinion Gee and we don't all think the same as the next person so speaking for myself, my comments are as I state them and if they differ from, in this case, your way of thinking, then so be it.

That may be but you're comments are quite rude.

"I would want my own ring..." sounds like a spoilt child.

Amazing that when I have a difference of opinion, I'm shot down, but for the rest of you it's acceptable!!

Patriotic in some ways http://www.deskdemon.com/dnet/index.php?topic=10330.0 and not in others...

I take delight when something good happens in this country especially as regards the monarchy.  After all our previous future Queen of England didn't have much luck!

It may be just another piece of news but I hope we hear about it every day until the event itself.  It amazes me that people consider themselves in a position of authority to judge others.

"People who judge don't matter and people who matter don't judge."

This started out just a nice thread.  Try to think about this, once the comments move to a personal level it, people can read it differently where one person maybe teasing maybe they are not, another may read it as an attack, or even an insult so this needs to stop, now.  Keep to the topic and not about others on DeskDemon.
